Als je binnen deze oude muren stapt, word je begeleid op een betoverende audioreis door het lange en roemruchte verleden van het kasteel, dat teruggaat tot minstens 1454. Elke kamer fluistert eeuwenlang — van de elegantie van de 16e-eeuwse portrettengalerij in de salon tot de warmte en rijkdom van 17e-eeuwse Vlaamse wandtapijten die een slaapkamer versieren die ooit geschikt was voor adel. Beeldende kunst, antieke schatten en de verhalen die ze met zich meedragen wachten op je bij elke bocht, en nodigen je uit om nog even te blijven hangen. Onze volgende stop is bij Culloden Battlefield, een van de belangrijkste slagvelden in het Verenigd Koninkrijk. Hier brengt uw Gids het landschap tot leven tijdens een wandeltocht van 30 minuten, terwijl hij u betovert met het verhaal van de laatst geworpen slag op Britse bodem; de Jacobitische opstand van 1746. Clava Cairns is een opmerkelijk goed bewaarde begraafplaats uit de Bronstijd, gebouwd rond 4.000 jaar geleden. Verspreid over de site vind je een scala aan fascinerende bouwwerken – doorgangsgraven, ringcairns, een stoeprandcairn en sfeervolle staande stenen. Hoewel de geschiedenis alleen al maakt dit een boeiende stop, het is ook een must-see voor Outlander fans. Diana Gabaldon heeft Clava Cairns beschreven als het “spirituele huis van Craigh na Dun”, en veel bezoekers zeggen dat het voelt alsof je recht in de wereld van Claire en Jamie stapt.
Onze volgende stop is het prachtige Dores Beach, aan de rustige zuidkust van Loch Ness - de thuisbasis van een van de meest adembenemende uitzichten in het hele Verenigd Koninkrijk! Maak een wandeling langs de kiezelstrand en geniet van het prachtige panorama of, als hij niet op Nessie-jacht is, ontmoet je misschien zelfs de inwonende monsterjager Steve Feltham, die hier al meer dan 30 jaar op zoek is naar het monster van Loch Ness en een aantal zeer memorabele souvenirs verkoopt. Er is ook een traditionele Schotse pub direct aan de rand van het meer, waar u kunt genieten van een lokaal biertje of een klein drammetje whisky (afhankelijk van openingstijden).

We zijn op zoek naar een van de beroemdste bewoners van de Highlands — de Highland cow (of “coo” zoals we graag zeggen). We used and appreciated Wow Scotland 9 years ago. A cruise found us once again in Invergordon looking for a tour of Inverness and area. We appreciated Wow Scotland back then and, on this trip, fell in love with them all over again. Last tour was Gordon. A great guy. This tour we enjoyed Murdoch. Like many guides, he had a wonderful background and knew the history and stories of the lands very well. Where he set himself apart from others was how he wove those stories together and presented them like only a skilled storyteller can. The small bus format of these tours is SO much better than a big coach. We strayed from the beaten path so that we could enjoy the countryside on a more intimate level. I've been cruising for years and taken countless tours. In all sincerity my two favorites are both with Wow Scotland. I don't simply recommend them. No. I highly recommend them. There love of Scotland coupled with a personal touch that is rarely seen, they give the finest tours possible.

The guide/driver was great. Lots of history and entertaining stories. All the stops were all very good.
Murdoch Beddie was a fabulous tour guide. Folks in our group that usually fall asleep on bus tours stayed awake all day! Very knowledgeable about history and a terrific storyteller. This tour has a good mix of stops and time at each location compared to others we have done where you get 5 minutes at a view point to take a picture and hop back on the bus. Really enjoyed it and was the best tour of all that we had on this cruise.
Ross was our guide and driver, excellent stories and history between stops. He also shared local music on longer drives. We covered lots of Scottland in a very nice streched Sprinter bus. Saw Loch Ness, Culloden Battlefield, Cawdor Castle, Clava Cairns and Inverness. The Castle tour was my favoirite, folowed by walking around Iverness. We will be back! Ask to tour with Ross, you wont be dissappointed.
