Vanaf ons ontmoetingspunt bij Norrsken House Kigali beginnen we onze wandeling richting het Belgian Peacekeepers Memorial. Onderweg krijg je een gevoel voor de schone, goed geplande straten en moderne architectuur van Kigali. We komen langs levendige commerciële gebieden, kleine lokale winkels en het dagelijkse stadsleven dat zich om ons heen ontvouwt.
Bij het Belgian Peacekeepers Memorial staan we stil bij de geschiedenis van de 10 Belgische soldaten die werden gedood aan het begin van de genocide op de Tutsi in 1994. De site beschikt over een klein museum en het bewaard gebleven gebouw met kogelmarkering waar ze hun laatste stelling namen, en biedt een krachtige blik in het verleden van Rwanda en zijn reis naar vrede.
Biryogo heeft veel te bieden, en we zullen er zijn om het allemaal in ons op te nemen! We wandelen door de levendige autovrije zone, waar de lokale bevolking zich verzamelt bij openluchttheewinkels, het aroma van gegrilde brochettes de lucht vult en de straten gonzen van het leven. Terwijl we op ontdekkingstocht gaan, komen we langs prachtige straatkunst, een showcase van Kigali’s creativiteit en cultuur. We stoppen ook bij het Nyamirambo Women’s Center, waar je meer te weten kunt komen over de inspirerende initiatieven van de gemeenschap en lokaal gemaakte ambachten kunt bekijken. Of het nu gaat om het nippen van gekruide Rwandese thee, het proeven van vers sap of gewoon het opsnuiven van de levendige sfeer, deze stop geeft je een authentiek gevoel van Kigali's sociale en culturele hartslag.
Maak een wandeling langs Imbuga City Walk, een levendige voetgangersstraat in het hart van Kigali. Zonder auto's in de buurt is het de perfecte plek om de energie van de stad op te snuiven, te genieten van een kopje Rwandese koffie en lokale street art te bekijken. Je komt langs kleine winkeltjes, terrasjes en verkopers die van alles verkopen, van ambacht tot vers fruit. Het is een geweldige plek om de moderne, relaxte sfeer van Kigali te ervaren en te zien hoe de lokale bevolking hun dag doorbrengt. Dit is de laatste plek om te bezoeken en het einde van onze geweldige tour. Indien gewenst kunnen wij u assisteren bij het regelen van een taxi of een motor om u terug te brengen naar uw locatie.

The tour was average. The guide good thou after the interesting Belgian Memorial, we walked past several buildings and then the poorer side of town. After 2 hours we were left at the cafe mall.

What was written as a three hour tour was worth 10 in knowledge and education. Walking around Kigali among the locals, learning local customs and history was very rewarding. My tour guide Jerry was excellent and explained everything in great detail. I would recommend this tour.
