Katla-ijsgrot en watervallen aan de zuidkust vanuit Reykjavík

Tijdens deze prachtige dagtour vanuit Reykjavík verken je de watervallen en gletsjers waar de zuidkust van IJsland beroemd om is. Zodra iedereen aan boord van onze bus is, vertrekken we vanuit Reykjavík naar Vík. Hier stappen we over op een superjeep voor de moeilijke reis terwijl we de gletsjer opstijgen. 4x4-kracht is essentieel voor deze taak. Geniet van het gletsjerlandschap terwijl we vreemde ijsformaties en het kristalblauwe ijs van de Katla-ijsgrot verkennen. Verken Vík, met zijn zwarte strand, en lunch. Vervolgens stappen we weer in de bus en op onze terugreis naar de hoofdstad stoppen we bij Skógafoss en Seljalandsfoss, twee van de mooiste watervallen van IJsland. Dit is echt de essentiële ervaring aan de zuidkust en we hopen dat je aan het einde van je avontuurlijke dag bij ons blijvende herinneringen meeneemt.

Stap over van onze bus naar een superjeep terwijl u aan boord gaat van deze spectaculaire odyssee naar een natuurlijke blauwe ijsgrot op de Kötlujökull-gletsjer. Onze deskundige gletsjergidsen, met tientallen jaren ervaring, begeleiden u veilig door deze extreme omgeving terwijl we de prachtige blauwe ijsgrot en ijsformaties bekijken. We rusten u uit met stijgijzers, harnas en veiligheidshelm voor deze onvergetelijke ervaring. De totale ervaring duurt ongeveer 3 uur. Houd er rekening mee dat vanwege de steeds veranderende aard van ijsgrotten, we niet kunnen beloven dat het uitzicht tijdens uw tour identiek zal zijn aan de getoonde afbeeldingen. Het uiterlijk van gletsjers en ijsgrotten kan verschillen op basis van factoren zoals het seizoen, tijdstip van de dag, lichtomstandigheden en andere variabelen.
Vík is een van de meest pittoreske dorpjes van IJsland. Het ligt aan de wilde zuidelijke kustlijn en wordt omgeven door een prachtig landschap, waaronder zwarte zandstranden en basaltblokken. De Vikurkikja-kerk kijkt uit over het dorp en biedt een schitterend uitzicht.
We verlaten Vík en reizen terug naar het westen richting de hoofdstad, maar niet vóór nog twee essentiële hotspots aan de zuidkust. Als eerste is er de Skógafoss-waterval, een krachtig natuurwonder dat bezoekers vol ontzag achterlaat. De krachtige watervallen vallen vanaf een hoogte van 60 meter en overspannen een breedte van 25 meter en genereren een constante mist, waardoor op zonnige dagen levendige regenbogen ontstaan. Omlijst door weelderig groen en omgeven door dramatische kliffen, biedt Skógafoss een adembenemend decor voor zowel natuurliefhebbers als fotografen. Het uitkijkplatform bovenaan is bereikbaar via een schilderachtige trap en biedt een prachtig panorama op de waterval en het omliggende landschap, waardoor Skógafoss een must-see bestemming is voor degenen die het spectaculaire landschap van IJsland verkennen.
De Seljalandsfoss-waterval is een van de blijvende iconen van IJsland. Beroemd om zijn wonderbaarlijke wandelpad waarmee bezoekers achter de watervallen kunnen lopen, is Seljalandsfoss een essentiële stop tijdens elke tour langs de zuidkust. Na onze stop van 45 minuten hier vervolgen we onze weg terug naar de stad.

Our guides were so nice and personable which makes the day so much better. The ice cave was short but very neat to experience. The waterfalls are amazing!
Loved the small group experience. We had around 12 people and a great guide. I believe her name is Kate. She had a fun sense of humor which made the long day fun. I loved the "natural" ice cave vs. a man-made one. It was a shallow cave, just a few yards but very interesting. I also loved the waterfall that we were able to walk behind. Just a note of safety: getting up the rocks was steep at places and slippery because of the constant mist of the falls. You will need a raincoat of some sort as you will get wet. The experience, however, was awesome.
Pick up was on time at number 12-Foss Hotel. Alain was well versed in the history of Iceland and our stops for the day. He took pictures of our group of 8 too ! We had the best time today. Stopped for lunch and souvenirs too.

Incredible tour. Alain was a phenomenal tour guide, very informative, and knew everything from geophysics to folklore. The group and I were entertained the whole time. The waterfalls were beautiful, and the ice cave and landscape were something out of this world. Will definitely book another tour next time in Iceland!

This was a great day!!! Our tour guide Allain was fantastic!!! He kept us entertained the entire day with lots of information and fun stories. The waterfalls were great and the Ice Cave was so cool. The scenery was so unique it was worth the trip!

Excellent trip, worth the time and money. Little better planning needed as to pickup locations in the morning. We were an hour late getting picked up in the morning which was very frustrating. We did receive a full tour and driver John was great - very knowledgeable and friendly. Cave was amazing.
There were two guides on this tour, one who did the waterfalls and black sands in a mini bus and one who did the glacier and a beach in the 4x4. The best bit was the mini bus guide who picked me up showed me the waterfalls and drove us home. Although the glacier tour part was incredible and the driver was very capable, we drove on the beach at one point and I couldn’t see anything as I was on the side away from the shoreline so that was disappointing. I also felt like as a solo traveller I kind of got a bit ignored and out crowded by the larger groups I was with. However it did give me sometime to separate and sit outside the cave on glacier to just exist in the snow with the ravens and arctic fox tracks which was truly magical. I can’t say enough good things about the mini bus guide, he got me home in time to see the concert I was booked for and he was just smart, funny, intelligent and kind. It’s tough the over tourism in Iceland especially as a lot of people want to just check boxes and not exist and absorb the beauty quietly. I recommend this experience for sure, but wear proper shoes (one girl had trainers and no socks) and respect nature by being present and pausing.
