Laat de drukte van Bangkok achter je voor een dagbezoek aan de provincie Kanchanaburi. Hoewel het vandaag de dag een populaire bestemming is voor reizigers uit de hele wereld, is het gebied diep verbonden met de tragische geschiedenis van de Birma Railway, ook wel bekend als de Death Railway, gebouwd tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog onder extreem barre omstandigheden door krijgsgevangenen en dwangarbeiders. Deze volledige dagtour biedt een onvergetelijke combinatie van geschiedenis en natuur met een bezoek aan het JEATH War Museum en de beroemde Bridge on the River Kwai, een historisch monument dat de Kwai Yai-rivier overspant. U rijdt vervolgens verder naar het prachtige Erawan National Park, waar zeven lagen smaragdgroene watervallen door weelderig tropisch bos stromen. Hier heeft u tijd om te ontspannen, de wandelpaden te verkennen of zelfs een verfrissende duik te nemen in de natuurlijke zwembaden, waardoor het een perfecte balans is tussen geschiedenis, cultuur en natuur.

Het JEATH War Museum is gewijd aan het verhaal van de mannen die aan de Dodenspoorlijn werkten. De afkorting JEATH staat voor de verschillende nationaliteiten van de krijgsgevangenen die tussen 1942 en 1943 aan de aanleg van de spoorlijn werkten: Japan, Engeland, Amerika, Australië, Thailand en Holland (Nederland). Het museum toont de werkelijke items die werden gebruikt voor de aanleg van de Dodenspoorlijn en het toont een groot aantal foto's die destijds door gevangenen zijn gemaakt. Een van de drie galerijen met foto's is gehuisvest in een bamboehut die een exacte replica is van de schuilplaatsen waarin de krijgsgevangenen (krijgsgevangenen) in die tijd leefden. Het museum is ook de thuisbasis van een bom die door de geallieerden is afgeworpen om de brug te vernietigen, maar die niet is ontploft. De brug over de rivier de Kwai maakte deel uit van een strategische spoorlijn naar Birma waarmee de Japanners voorraden wilden veiligstellen om andere West-Aziatische landen te veroveren. Het was 415 kilometer lang en passeerde de Three Pagodas Pass in het Sangkhlaburi-district, het meest noordelijke deel van de provincie Kanchanaburi. Het Japanse keizerlijke leger bracht de ijzeren brug van Java tijdens de Japanse bezetting van Thailand in de Tweede Wereldoorlog. Het werd toen vergeleken met geallieerde krijgsgevangenen (POW) onder Japans toezicht. Een bezoek aan de River Kwai Bridge en de oorlogsbegraafplaats van Kanchanaburi moedigt aan om na te denken over de ondraaglijke behandeling die geallieerde krijgsgevangenen, Thais, Birmezen en Maleisiërs ondergingen onder het Japanse keizerlijke leger tijdens de aanleg van de beruchte Birmaspoorweg, beter bekend als de Dodenspoorweg. Het werk aan de spoorlijn werd in 16 maanden voltooid, ondanks berekeningen van Japanse ingenieurs dat de aanleg zeker 5 jaar zou duren!
Het Erawan National Park, opgericht in 1975 als het 12e nationale park van Thailand, is de thuisbasis van een van de meest populaire watervallen van het land. De belangrijkste attractie van het park zijn de 7-laagse Erawan-watervallen met smaragdgroene vijvers. De val is vernoemd naar de driekoppige olifant uit de hindoeïstische mythologie, omdat de bovenste cataract er op lijkt. Hier heb je genoeg tijd voor een verfrissende duik midden in de jungle of zelfs om naar het hoogste niveau van de watervallen te lopen (als het weer het toelaat). - Neem badkleding en een handdoek mee. We raden ook aan om goede wandelschoenen te dragen.
- Het verkeer in Bangkok kan zwaar overbelast zijn. Omdat onze rondleidingen op groepsbasis verlopen, kunnen we maximaal 10 minuten na de geplande vergadertijd wachten. Na deze respijtperiode begint de Gids aan de tour. Als u niet op tijd kunt komen, laat het ons dan weten voordat de tour begint. Indien mogelijk zullen we ons best doen om je te verzetten naar de eerstvolgende beschikbare dag, maar er zullen wel annuleringskosten van toepassing zijn. Er wordt geen restitutie verstrekt in geval van late aankomst.
- Annuleringen die minimaal 24 uur voor aanvang van de tour worden gemaakt, komen in aanmerking voor volledige restitutie. Voor annuleringen die minder dan 24 uur van tevoren worden gemaakt of in geval van no-show, wordt geen restitutie verleend.
- Onze tours werken met regen of zonneschijn, omdat tropische regenbuien in Thailand meestal niet lang duren. Als het hard regent, proberen we beschutting te zoeken en gaan we door zodra het weer verbetert. Tijdens het regenseizoen is het een goed idee om een regenjas of poncho mee te nemen. Houd er rekening mee dat annuleringen vanwege het weer niet in aanmerking komen voor restitutie.
- Houd er rekening mee dat Kanchanaburi ongeveer 3 uur rijden van Bangkok ligt (enkele reis), afhankelijk van de verkeersomstandigheden. Gasten moeten zich ervan bewust zijn dat een aanzienlijk deel van de dag zal worden besteed aan reizen.

Once again Mr kraising didn't disappoint us.. We planned a couple trip to Kanchanaburi from Bangkok. The ride was long, but going up to the waterfall, having a natural fish spa at level 3 was amazing. The death railway train ride was enjoyable but it felt a bit dark with memories of the place. We thoroughly went through dinner at keeree mantra restaurant, sampling Thai authentic dishes. We recommend this guy.. @letmedrivethailand on Facebook.. The tour to the was a great experience, the museum, The Bridge On The River Kwai and Eraean Waterfalls. Both our tour operator and driver were friendly and courteous. Lunch at Erawan Waterfalls restaurant was delicious. I highly recommend on going this tour with this company ❤️🙏

We caught a grab to the travel office in Chinatown,we got there we got invited in inside,nice aircon,then our driver turned up,I forgot his name ,then we started our drive to bridge over river Kwai and erawan falls,it took us nearly 2.5 hrs to get there,we met our guide Na she was very good indeed, explained everything about the railway and the museum,the prisoners of wars ,were treated terrible by the Japanese soldiers,if you didn't work you were punished,then we caught a boat down the river to the bridge,that was excited,then walked over the bridge,the railway so to take 3 years,but they were made to it in 18 months,100,000 soldiers died,then we left there and went to the erawan falls in the national park,,which were 1 hr away,we got there Na walked with us to waterfall 2 ,my wife went by the waterfall and we took photos,then Na left us and we walked up to waterfall 5,that was hard work,but I did it,it made me proud at 54 yrs old,I beat some of the young people.then we walked back down,my wife got dressed put the life jacket back,then we got the buggy back to the entrance,I would say have lunch before you go to the falls. I enjoyed it so much.defintely recommend it.
