Kalligrafie is niet alleen een kunstvorm en een symbool van de Japanse cultuur, maar ook een vorm van meditatie. Onder leiding van een professionele kalligrafie-instructeur gebruik je handgemaakte penselen uit Kumano, Hiroshima — Japans beste penseelmakerijstad — en geniet je van een rustig, creatief moment om jezelf uit te drukken. Schrijf je eigen kalligrafie op een waaier of shikishi en neem een uniek souvenir mee naar huis. De workshop wordt gehouden bij “Takumi,” een 50 jaar oude volksambachtswinkel. Een muur is prachtig versierd met ukiyo-e prints, waardoor een artistieke sfeer ontstaat. “Takumi” staat ook bekend als Hiroshima’s toonaangevende ambachtelijke winkel, met traditionele items uit heel Japan. The very friendly calligrapher showed us the most fundamental techniques in a short time and guided us well. We returned home very proud with our first beautiful characters.

Such a calm and interesting class, the teacher was very kind and insightful about stroke techniques and japanese calligraphy in general. We got to watch him perform and then try practicing strokes before we made our own project!
