Zie de Mendenhall-gletsjer vanaf een schilderachtige uitkijkpost; evenals berggezichten, adelaars, zalmen, zeehonden en meer. Rijd in een luxe hybride SUV, met kapiteinsstoelen op de middelste rij en een uitgestrekt manendak voor het spotten van adelaars die erboven zweven. Neem comfort in een verwarmde stoel (als de temperatuur te laag is voor u), en laad uw telefoon op terwijl u in stijl ontspant. Uw Gids is een lokale huisvader, die sinds 2016 in Juneau woont. Rij door het centrum van Juneau. We passeren historische gebouwen uit de mijnbouwboom van 1900, waaronder het oudste momenteel werkende hotel in Alaska! We passeren ook het Alaska Capitol, de zetel van de staatsregering, en het Governor’s Mansion.
Zie Juneau landschappen vanaf de zuidpunt van Douglas Island. Bekijk ook enkele van de ruïnes, zoals het pomphuis, van de Treadwell Mine, een goudmijn die meer dan honderd jaar geleden instortte.
Een majestueus, levensgroot bronzen walvisbeeld staat als een artistieke herdenking van meer dan vijftig jaar Alaskaanse staat. Panoramisch uitzicht op het Gastineau Channel en Douglas Island. Fotomogelijkheden in overvloed.
Dit prachtige meer heeft de prachtige Mendenhall Towers bergketen als achtergrond, en je kunt een glimp opvangen van de Mendenhall Glacier. Ten opzichte van een foto ter plaatse die een eeuw geleden is genomen, kan men zien hoe dramatisch de gletsjer in de loop der tijd is veranderd.
Een geweldige fotosessie van de Mendenhall Glacier, met een prachtige weide van vuurwier op de voorgrond! Je leert ook over de recente jaarlijkse overstromingen van de Mendenhall River.
Of je jezelf nu religieus vindt of niet, deze heilige locatie biedt een prachtig uitzicht op het goed onderhouden terrein, evenals de omliggende bergen en de oceaan. Er kunnen adelaars en walvissen worden gespot, evenals paaiende zalmen (afhankelijk van de maand).
Je leert over de volledige levenscyclus van de zalm. Binnenin de broedkamer bevinden zich twee touchpools, een cilindrisch aquarium en een cadeauwinkel. (Opmerking : De buitenladder voor zalm opent 21 juni; dieren zoals adelaars, zeehonden en zeeleeuwen kunnen meestal worden gespot).

Very beautiful excursion and experience. We had good exchanges with the guide, Allan, and he adapted the tour to our group. As French speakers, we did not have any trouble understanding him or making ourselves understood. The stopover points were all well-chosen and interesting. We highly recommend it.

Allan was an awesome tour guide! He was very knowledgeable, accommodating, and communicative. His car was clean and comfortable for all 5 of us. We really enjoyed the locations he took us to and he made sure that we got back to our cruise ship well before gangway up. We would highly recommend his tour to anyone looking for a way to see more of Juneau without having to go on a crowded tour bus. It was a beautiful day that surpassed our expectations!

Our private tour with Allan was a great way to see many highlights of the Juneau area.. the salmon hatchery is a must see.. truly fascinating! That was just one of our stops. Allan is a great tour guide with tons of information. Our time flew by and we even came upon several bald eagles at the harbor that we were able to see close up… incredible!
