Tijdens deze tour bezoeken we zowel de westelijke als centrale kraters. In de westelijke krater van Sete Cidades zien we een prachtig uitzicht op 650 meter boven zeeniveau op de rand van de krater. We bekijken onder ons het tweelingmeer met de prinsessen en herders tranen. Deze krater is een van de zeven wonderen van Portugal en is een must see. Het zandpad dat de rand van de krater Sete Cidades volgt is een iconisch kenmerk van dit adembenemende Azorenlandschap. Slingerend langs de rand van deze massieve vulkanische caldera, biedt het pad enkele van de meest spectaculaire en gewilde uitzichten op de Azoren. Dit onverharde pad varieert in breedte en conditie, en biedt een meer natuurlijke en ruige wandelervaring in vergelijking met verharde wegen. Terwijl je het volgt, ontvouwt het panorama zich continu. Aan de ene kant strekt de enorme uitgestrektheid van de kraterbodem zich uit, vaak gehuld in mist of lappendeken met groene weiden. Aan de andere kant onthult de dramatische daling de twee legendarische meren – het levendige groene Lagoa Verde en het diepblauwe Lagoa Azul – mogelijk verbonden door een dunne strook land of water, afhankelijk van het seizoen en het gezichtspunt.
Sete Cidades, geprezen als een van Portugals 7 natuurwonderen, is een adembenemende vulkanische caldera op São Miguel op de Azoren. This company/trip was recommended by someone we met at the airport. They said it was a must. So we booked! From the moment Goncalo picked us up to the moment he dropped us off - it was an amazing adventure. The weather was not the greatest and we weren’t sure how it was going to be. Goncalo was able to pivot and make sure we had a good time and catch all the sights we could. Regardless of the heavy fog and rain, the day was EPIC. If you are worried about the weather- don’t. The guides are fantastic and tailor the day around the weather so you still see a lot of the Azores.
