Reisroute

Amazing! Thank you very much for sharing! The Toorers team
Our tour with Louise was one of the highlights of our time in Paris. She brought the rare combination of deep academic knowledge and lived familiarity with the city itself. As a trained historian who also knows these neighborhoods intimately, she was able to move beyond surface-level storytelling and into real cultural and historical analysis. What made the experience especially meaningful was the nuance. Louise didn’t present “Black Americans in Paris” as a single, simplified narrative. She thoughtfully explored the very different experiences of figures like James Baldwin, Richard Wright, Josephine Baker, and Charles Dumas, contextualizing how identity, sexuality, relationships, fame, politics, and presentation shaped the ways each person moved through Paris and was received there. That level of complexity mattered. She also did not shy away from the contradictions within French society itself — particularly the contrast between how Paris often embraced Black American artists and intellectuals while simultaneously marginalizing people from its own colonies. That broader context gave the tour real intellectual and emotional depth. As a Black woman, I often try to understand where people like me fit within the history of a place when I travel. This tour gave me that opportunity in a way that felt thoughtful, honest, and deeply human. I left feeling both informed and moved. HIGHLY recommend!

Christina was very knowledgeable. First, I haven’t I say she was patient and accommodating since we were late for the tour. We enjoyed the walk and visiting some areas of Paris we weren’t familiar with. Learning more about the black American artist is Paris made me appreciate the city more.

Both the tour and our tour guide, Louise, were marvelous. We make a habit of taking a walking tour when we travel to new places, and this one felt extra special because of the specific, important historical storytelling that was woven throughout. It was a treat, too, to learn from Louise, who clearly cares about and is studied in the history of this tour and Paris. We hope to find more tours like this in future travels. Great for those who do and do not know some of the background history!
