In het historische Dalkey Castle (1390) brengen gekostumeerde levende geschiedenisacteurs de eeuwenoude geschiedenis tot leven met boogschieten, kapperschirurgie en een kok die een masterclass geeft over circulaire economie (niets werd verspild) in de middeleeuwen, als onderdeel van elke rondleiding. De tour omvat ook een verkenning van de sfeervolle 10e-eeuwse Sint-Begnetkerk en het kerkhof die met de locatie verbonden zijn. Het erfgoedcentrum is ook voorzien van interactieve schermen in verschillende talen en schaalmodellen. A Writers' Gallery biedt interactieve panelen met het werk van 45 lokaal verbonden creatieve kunstenaars, van James Joyce tot Bono en Samuel Beckett tot Maeve Binchy. Klim naar de kantelen voor een prachtig uitzicht op het omliggende prachtige landschap, met uitzicht op de zee en de bergen. Perfect length, group size and guides. They really put their hearts into the acting and made it fun/interactive/educational. My kids (6 and 9) will remember this forever. Their first castle experience! We actually arrived a bit late so I was ready to be turned away but the front desk staff brought us into the room where the tour was happening so we were still able to join. Very steep and narrow stairs at some points- dangerous for those not able to climb or not stable on their feet. I believe some older guests were given an alternative route from our group but they may have missed one part of the tour.

We had a wonderful time getting quickly into character with the arrival of the barber the initial activity of munting a coin with the children was a great idea.staff were exceptionally patient with the children. This is not a boring museum and apart from the initial room there is no information to read making it child friendly. All the characters were fantastic and the information was given in a way that my daughter was able to remember later on due to story telling. The rest of the staff were also wonderful. A lovely moment that left me wanting to hear more. Thank you for a wonderful afternoon.

The actors were fun and friendly and really brought the castle to life. I found the video showing how the castle was built was very informative and showed why the structure was the way it was.
