Op de top van Noordoost Donegal ligt Inishowen, het grootste schiereiland van Ierland. Grianan of Aileach is een oud stenen heuvelfort hoog boven Lough Swilly, met een prachtig panoramisch uitzicht over Donegal, Derry en Tyrone. Doordrenkt van mythe en geschiedenis, was het ooit een koninklijk bolwerk van de koningen van Aileach en een krachtig symbool van het vroege Gaelische Ierland.
Buncrana is een charmante badplaats aan de oevers van Lough Swilly, bekend om zijn schilderachtige wandelingen, zandstranden en ontspannen sfeer. Het is een geweldige plek om te pauzeren, te genieten van uitzicht op de kust en het dagelijks leven in Inishowen te ervaren. Gelegen aan de westkant van het schiereiland Inishowen, is de schilderachtige rit naar Fort Dunree alleen al zo adembenemend als het uitzicht vanaf het fort. Fort Dunree is van oudsher een kustverdedigingsvesting en is nu een militair museum met veel gerestaureerde geweren en tentoonstellingen over de vogels, het zeeleven en de kustvegetatie van het gebied. Mamore Gap is een steile, smalle weg langs de Urris Hills. Een uitkijkpunt aan de top biedt een panoramisch uitzicht op de Atlantische Oceaan en het omliggende platteland. Er zijn heilige overblijfselen te vinden, waaronder een heilige bron gewijd aan Saint Eigne, evenals een 'Magic Road' of 'Gravity Hill'.
Ervaar hoe families en gemeenschappen leefden in de oorspronkelijke huisjes met rieten daken op het platteland van Ierland. De rondleiding omvat ook een uitwijkscène, Orange Hall, Republican Safe House en Irish Wake House.

Een bezoek aan Malin Head, het meest noordelijke punt van Ierland, is een echte aanrader. Ga waar de grotere touringcars niet kunnen - rechtstreeks naar 'Banba's Crown', het noordelijkste puntje. Ervaar het unieke ruige landschap dat de filmlocatie was van de recente 'Star Wars VIII: The Last Jedi'.

We were lucky enough to have Henry as our guide in March 2026, and the rainy day was instantly brightened by his beaming smile when he picked us up at our accommodation. Henry gave us a wonderful day filled with wit, charm, and knowledge, and we enjoyed every moment. If you are ever in Donegal- book with Henry & Donegal Tours! It was the most incredible experience we had in 1 day! We booked the Innishowen Tor/ Malin head Booking was easy Henry responded quickly and professionally The day before our tour he gave us our location to meet him in Donegal. He was there early His Mercedes van was clean, comfortable, packed with waters & umbrellas ( if need be) His knowledge of the area, its history & present day knowledge of the area was fantastic. My father is a huge history buff- he probably talked & asked questions to Henry all day! Henry was more than happy to answer & share everything with him! The rugged landscapes are breathtaking here! The roads are not for the faint of heart! Henry maneuvered around all the twists & turns with precise professionalism! We had wonderful weather! We saw Griaanan fort A local man gave us such insight to this area and its history We drive through the lovely town of Buncrana, Fort Dunree which was magical against the ocean The cloudy weather, a slight drizzle then a burst of sunshine made it most magical! My favorite part was our trip down to the Gap of Mamore! We stopped at the “Magic Toad” where he put the van in neutral- took his feet off the gas pedal & his hands off the wheel ! The van slowly moved up hill with the help of the Fairies!!! ( believe in the magic & folklore in Ireland) The views are simply BREATHTAKING here! Our last stop was the dough Famine village It was so interesting The guide is the owner & lived I. These thatched cottages himself - do t forget to go through the haunted room for a little spooky fun! Although we didn’t get to Malin head due to road construction up there- we cannot recommend Henry & Donegal tours enough We will definitely book with him again! Thank you Henry!’

We spent about 2-1/2 days with Henry just last month touring Donegal and the Inishowen Peninsula. We loved every minute of our time with him. Because of our limited time there, he personalized an itinerary for us which was fantastic. We toured 3 days with Henry and Mallin Head was our favorite day. Henry went overboard to help us with groceries, our Airbnb, and acquiring other transportation. He was a joy to learn from and spend the day with. We especially liked how he explained the Gaelic language everywhere we went.

My sister and I booked with Henry for our first trip to Ireland, and it was the best decision we ever made! We spent 5 days with Henry as he took us all over the north of Ireland (County Donegal and the Inishowen Peninsula). He shared history, stories, traditions, and so many laughs. Henry made our experience unforgettable and we were sad when our time with him came to an end. We met as strangers but left as friends.
