Alles wat er ooit toe deed in Zadar, sinds de middeleeuwen, gebeurde of werd gehoord op het Volksplein. Het is het centrum van het stadsleven, een bron die je met zijn energie en schoonheid naar binnen zuigt en de voorbijgangers vervolgens toevertrouwt aan andere stedelijke sensaties.
Hoewel deze 17e-eeuwse barokke kerk mooi genoeg is, is het wat erin zit echt opmerkelijk. De sarcofaag van St. Simeon, die een prominente plaats inneemt boven het hoofdaltaar, is een meesterwerk van middeleeuwse goudsmeden.
Zadar is de trotse eigenaar van een unieke mix van architectuur en muziek, het wereldberoemde Zeeorgel, dat pal naast een andere moderne installatie, de Groet aan de Zon, staat. De geluiden die het Zeeorgel produceert, zijn het resultaat van het vrijkomen van zee-energie, of liever golven en getijden.
Samen met de golfenergie die het geluid van het Zeeorgel maakt, produceert het een trippy lichtshow van zonsondergang tot zonsopgang die bedoeld is om het zonnestelsel te simuleren. Het verzamelt ook voldoende energie om het hele verlichtingssysteem voor de haven van stroom te voorzien.

My husband and I were the only two that signed up for our tour. Our guide, Tonka, was absolutely incredible! She shared her knowledge of Zadar with us and made the tour that much more enjoyable. What a lovely 2 hours with Andrija! He walked us around the city and gave us the historical facts plus added in personal stories from his family-oh what a lovely time! We had cheese and brandy and he told us of the restaurant we are going to for our 30th anniversary!! The ice cream recommendation was great also! We really enjoyed this tour in Zadar!Our guide Tonka was lively, curious, and knew how to explain history in a way that kept us interested. It covered not only communism and World War II, but also the Italian, Austro-Hungarian, Turkish, German and French occupations, the Yugoslav Kingdom, Communist Yugoslavia and Tito. We walked through important places in the city, asked all our questions, and finished with a taste of a national drink. A great mix of history, stories and atmosphere!

Tonka had a great sense of humor and really bought the long history of the city to life.
