Overall, I really enjoyed Hobbiton Movie Set since it’s one of my bucket list destinations. That said, it would feel even more immersive if there were actual “villagers” around—selling things or putting on small performances—instead of just a guided tour. It would really bring the place to life. My favorite part was definitely the dinner. The only thing missing, in my opinion, is the staff costumes—they should dress like hobbits to make it feel more authentic. Adding some live music and dancing would also enhance the atmosphere and probably attract even more visitors.
This tour of Hobbiton was amazing the highlight of our trip to the North Island. The most magical experience walking through the movie set. Stunning scenery, attention to detail on the set was amazing with all the Hobbit homes etc. Our tour guide Andrew was fantastic really made the whole experience for us so engaging and friendly on the tour...remembered all the names of guests on the tour amazing. Loved everything about this experience would highly recommend as a must do.
Honestly I never watched the movies so wasn’t too excited, but husband insisted. He was right!!! It was fascinating and magical! The guide, Sebastian, was knowledgeable and fun. This has been the highlight of our trip so far. It is a must do when in NZ! Highly recommend!!!!
Interesting for Lord of the rings fans, and non-fans alike, amazing tour, guide, very informative, comfortable length of time, fun for colleges.
A wonderful afternoon exploring the Hobbiton Movie set with two young Grandchildren aged 7 and 9 years old. Stevie, our lovely Guide was very interactive with both the children and adults within the group.
A really smooth check in - even though we arrived a little close to our tour time. The reception area was well organised with easy access. The staff were incredibly helpful and friendly which set the tone for the day. The guide was informative and the tour was given just the right amount of time to enjoy the whole of the set. Well worth a visit and certainly recommend booking through Viator!
Professionally organized; since I was here in the New Zealand winter, it was also not overcrowded, and I was able to start with an earlier slot. Some background information; great to have seen the filming location once.
At Main meeting area - lots of parking available, made into a nice tourist spot, nice area to picnic while waiting, coffee, snacks and ice cream counters and a good gift shop. Tour guide for whole tour - yuna was friendly - we walked along shire, walking by each house (44 hobbit holes), checked out bag end, lots of places to take pics, then went through a hobbit house, which was pretty cute and nice thing to walk in, chilled @ the green dragon (where the complimentary drinks provided were good and refreshing), took bus back and finished tour on time. Tours are very well run and very organised
Special place if you like The Lord of The Rings and The Hobbit. It has been on my Bucket List for several years and I was really pleased I made the effort. Loved the theme music in the bus as we departed, really pleased there were umbrellas. I was well dressed and had an umbrella but was provided a larger and better one. Thank you. Our guide (Stephen) was very good as well, like hearing the stories around the tour (Sat 25, 1:40pm)
