Historische wandeltocht door San Diego
Beschrijving
Het is een groepswandeling om de bezienswaardigheden van het centrum van San Diego te bekijken. De tour omvat de volledige geschiedenis van San Diego vanaf de oprichting in 1542 tot de moderne industrie. De tour bevat informatie over de oprichters en visionairs van San Diego, Gaslamp District, Horton Park, Santa Fe Train Station en de USS Midway.

Josh zal je ontmoeten in de lobby van het historische San Diego Trust and Savings Bank Building (nu een Courtyard Marriott) om informatie te delen over hoe San Diego de geboorteplaats van Californië werd. Je leert over Spaanse ontdekkingsreizigers, de eerste nederzetting van Old Town, de Mexicaans-Amerikaanse oorlog en het worden van de 31e staat in de VS.
Na het passeren van het Gaslamp Quarter leer je over de groei van de stad en de visionaire creatie van het centrum van San Diego aan het einde van de 19e eeuw (inclusief internationale erkenning en de ontwikkeling van de dierentuin van San Diego).
De tour stopt buiten het historische treinstation van Santa Fe om te leren hoe de oostkust en de westkust per trein met elkaar verbonden waren. Toegang tot de trein leidde tot een tijdperk van welvaart en rijke elites die San Diego bezochten, vooral met de opening van het beroemde Hotel Del Coronado.
De tour eindigt buiten het USS Midway Museum om de rol van San Diego in wereldoorlogen en de moderne militaire industrie te bespreken. Houd er rekening mee dat de tour GEEN toegang tot het USS Midway Museum omvat en dat de tour NIET het museum in gaat.

Josh was on time, very friendly and extremely knowledgeable. He made the tour fun and interesting. We learned a lot about San Diego and he gave us great ideas for activities and places to visit during our stay.
Fantastic tour hosted by Josh! Got lucky on an off day where I was the only one joining the tour, so Josh was able to spend a nice amount of time answering questions and we kept up together at a much more urban walking pace without having to wait for others. Even though I am SoCal born and bred, Josh shared so much about San Diego's place in the world stage that never made it to my K-12 California history books, especially when they hosted the Panama-California exposition (aka the city development equivalent of the Olympics, world cup, world's fair etc). It offered a really great appreciation for the city even though I have been a visitor before, and why things came to be especially with the history in the early 1900s, the zoo, and Balboa Park. Great tour if you love history and a bit of urban planning or architecture!

Amazing that during a leisurely 1 mile walk in about an hour- we learned a wealth of information about the founding of San Diego to present day. Josh covered moments of cultural significance, noteable architectural highlights and the role the Navy has played in the past and modern contexts. I was in town on a business trip and this was the perfect activity to gain perspective of the city (all too often I only leave with an understanding of the hotel I'm in with no chance to learn more!) at an incredibly reasonable price point of $15. Josh is knowledgeable, easy going and charming - this tour will not disappoint.
