Ons historische bezoek aan Marigot stelt ons in staat te begrijpen hoe we door tijd en ruimte kunnen reizen terwijl we door de eeuwen slenteren, onthuld door de straten en gebouwen van Marigot. In één uur dertig reizen we van de 17e eeuw naar vandaag. We ontdekken hoe de hoofdstad van het Franse St.Martin door de tijd heen is geëvolueerd, waarbij we de geschiedenis van het hele eiland blootleggen en het verhaal van een typisch Caribische stad schilderen: van onverharde wegen tot asfalt, van ezels en paarden tot auto's, van houten huizen tot beton gebouwen. Je wordt door de straten van Marigot geleid door Stéphie, gepassioneerd door de geschiedenis van St.Martin. We stoppen op verschillende punten in de stad om meer te leren over het verleden van Marigot. Houd je ogen open, sporen van het verleden zijn overal in de stad te vinden!

De reis begint op de parkeerplaats van Fort Louis, in Marigot, aan de Franse kant van Saint-Martin. Onze gids laat je door de jaren heen kennismaken met Marigot terwijl je uitkijkt over het prachtige uitzicht.
Na een korte stop bij de oude gevangenis en vervolgens de beroemde rooms-katholieke kerk Marigot, laat je gids Stephie je kennismaken met de rue de la République met zijn creoolse architectonische huizen.
In deze straat leer je alles over de beroemde film die daar werd opgenomen, een basisschool die in een openbare dienst is veranderd, de Methodistenkerk die werd gekoesterd tijdens de kolonisatie en verwoest door de orkaan Irma, en de geheime pareltjes van het gerechtsgebouw.
Leer in de tuin van de Collectivité van Saint-Martin meer over de verhalen van elke burgemeester en hun verkiezingen.
Je bereikt het einde van deze belangrijke straat aan de Franse kant, waar de cultuur tot leven komt. Overigens staan er in deze straat twee hoofdgebouwen die al decennialang worden onderhouden. Welke zijn dat? Waar werden ze voor gebruikt?

We were very disappointed when our tour was canceled the day of the tour. We were told that there was a parade that happens once a year that ended by 5pm. That is when our tour would have begun. If it is such an important parade, they should have canceled long before this date, or not even made this date available to begin with. We would have been able to find a different tour for this day then. But we had no time to do so.

We also proposed an alternative date, but unfortunately it did not work for you as it was after your departure. Stephie is a passionate person. We went for a 2h ride without seeing time pass. Fortunately there is this kind of excursion to learn more about the city, because the museum no longer exists. I recommend!
The Marigot tour that Stéphie suggests is a superb walk which allows you to delve into the past and understand the evolution of the center of the island as well as the very important relationship between this district of the island and the others. You will be guided using clear and dated information, anecdotes and archive photos. A tour that I recommend to everyone, both to tourists curious to learn more and to locals.
