Volg een begeleide wandeling door een historische wijk die ouder is dan DC zelf. Een van onze gidsen (Canden Schwantes) schreef de boeken over Georgetown. Bekijk de koloniale charme van de grachten, geplaveide straten, historische huizen en intrigerende geschiedenis. Je ziet en hoort verhalen over: - Chesapeake & Ohio Canal - een waterweg door het industriële deel van de wijk. - Old Stone House - oudste woongebouw in de wijk, nu een Nationaal Park-terrein. - Huizen van Jackie en John F. Kennedy - hoor over hun tijd in Georgetown voor en na zijn moord - Huizen uit de 18e en 19e eeuw - leer over de diverse, historische architectuur van de huizen en de verhalen van degenen die hier hebben gewoond. Zoek naar originele vuursporen, kolengoten, ijzergietwerk en gaslantaarns. - Luister naar verhalen over de Black Georgetown-gemeenschap, immigranten die de buurt hebben gevormd en vrouwen die sociale normen hebben geschonden. - Georgetown University - bekijk de beroemde campus en leer hoe de buurt deze heeft beïnvloed.

De haven van Georgetown gaat eeuwen terug en staat tegenwoordig bekend om zijn geplaveide straten, historische huizen en tuinen, en wordt gezien als een winkel- en eetdistrict. Het gebied te voet verkennen is de beste manier om terug in de tijd te gaan en te genieten van de parkachtige sfeer met al zijn oude baksteen en groen.
Het historische kanaal door het industriële gedeelte van Georgetown, gasten leren over de kanaalboten en zien een werkende "sluis" (poort) die de boten hielp om van en naar het kanaal te varen.
Het is zeker een van de oudste gebouwen in de hele stad, deze schilderachtige plek wordt beheerd door de National Parks Service en heeft een prachtige tuin om in te zitten en uit te rusten. Gebouwd in 1766, was het een autodealer in 1953 toen het werd overgenomen voor historisch behoud. Nu is het aan ons om te genieten van en te herinneren aan een eenvoudiger tijd waarin tabak en sterke verhalen werden verhandeld in de nabijgelegen haven.
Bekijk een van de vele huizen die verband houden met de familie Kennedy, die in bijna een dozijn verschillende huizen in de buurt woonde.
Deze prestigieuze jezuïetenuniversiteit, opgericht in 1789, staat wijd en zijd bekend om haar medische, juridische en niet-gegradueerde programma's. Bekijk de torenhoge torens van het Patrick Healy-gebouw en het standbeeld van oprichter John Carrol. Op een warme dag zullen de studenten in het gras voor de deur luieren, frisbees gooien, lezen en socializen.
We eindigen de tour bij de Exorcist Steps, een historische trap die beroemd werd dankzij de gelijknamige film uit de jaren 70.
Dit restaurant, een instelling in Georgetown, is sinds 1933 lokaal eigendom. De donkere houten panelen, zwart-witfoto's aan de muur en de stamgasten aan de bar geven deze plek een bepaald gevoel van nostalgie en ambiance. Het klassieke Amerikaanse tarief zorgt ervoor dat mensen jaar na jaar terugkomen met zowel binnen als buiten zitplaatsen

We did the tour with Ingeborg. She was born and raised in Georgetown, and it shows through her love for the neighborhood and depth of knowledge. We had only six persons in our group tour, so it was comfortable. Ingeborg was outstanding. She was knowledgeable with a great sense of humor and timing as she told us history and insider scoops on historical Georgetown. The tour is well conceived and well-paced to allow us to see important historical buildings and multiple architectural styles. We have traveled to 50 countries and done many city historical walking tours. This is one of the best we have done.
I’ve been on some great tours but I can honestly say this has been my favorite by far. Wayne was so knowledgeable and funny. There wasn’t a moment during the two hour tour that I wasn’t engaged. Couldn’t recommend going on this tour enough!

Wesley was an excellent tour guide! We were able to see a couple of JFK's places plus the staircase from The Exorcist. **Could Viator please adjust the starting point for this tour? I copy/pasted the address from Viator into the Uber app and was given the wrong location. The starting point is between 30th and Thomas Jefferson somewhere near The Old Stone House. Not at The Old Stone House...just near it. Please confirm with tour guides. Thank you!

Don’t get me wrong, there was much to see and learn during this hot day in August. I do think it would be better with the use of a microphone and ear buds. The talking as we walked was difficult to hear. Much of those conversations were between the guide and one or two guests but others were left out of hearing what was being said but I know interesting things were being talked about. I would have enjoyed more history of past and current events in Georgetown. There were periods of long walks where nothing was being said I kept thinking, “this is Georgetown, there has to be more to it than what we are learning”. Lots of walking on a hot day. The town could use a few sidewalk benches. This may be a tour best done by an electric vehicle like we rode on a night tour of DC. The guide was good but I just think he has more knowledge of history than we were getting. Make the questions and answers being asked by the guests known to all.

Very hot and tiring but well worth the effort. Bring a lot of water if you’re walking in the summer. Katherine was very knowledgeable and quite delightful to tour with.
