Uw tour door Bar Harbor begint op de pier bij Agamont Park, waar u voldoende parkeergelegenheid vindt. Terwijl je door deze historische stad loopt, zie je tonnen prachtig bewaard gebleven architectuur, fenomenaal uitzicht op de oceaan en nog veel meer. Bar Island Trail is een totaal uniek wandelpad. Het is een zandbankpad dat naar een van de prachtige eilanden van Bar Harbor leidt, maar het verschijnt alleen bij eb! Als je hier op het juiste moment bent, zorgt het voor een positief magische wandeling.
De West Street Historic District beschikt over rijen adembenemende historische huizen, allemaal daterend tussen 1870 en 1910. Hier leer je hoe je kunt identificeren welke de oudste zijn!
La Rochelle, gebouwd in 1902, is een adembenemend landgoed. Dit enorme herenhuis heeft 41 kamers en een schat aan geschiedenis. Het is nu eigendom van de Maine Seacoast Mission Society, die het pand voor slechts een dollar kocht.
Dit iconische gebouw, gebouwd in 1878, overleefde amper een enorme brand die in 1947 door Bar Harbor raasde. Vandaag de dag verwelkomt het nog steeds bezoekers als een gezellige bed & breakfast!
Dit is een kerk die gewoon gefotografeerd moet worden. Het indrukwekkende metselwerk, de imposante toren en de prachtige ramen smeken allemaal om op Instagram te eindigen!
St. Saviour's Episcopal Church is een eigenzinnige architecturale eigenaardigheid. Deze kerk is in meerdere delen gebouwd, de oudste delen dateren uit 1877 en de nieuwste uit de jaren dertig. Het eindresultaat is een vreemd vertederende en totaal unieke structuur.
Deze historische bibliotheek dateert helemaal uit 1877. Destijds had het slechts 250 volumes, die bijna allemaal werden geschonken door de rijke inwoners van de stad. Sindsdien is die kleine collectie steeds verder uitgebreid.
Abbe Museum viert het erfgoed van de inheemse Wabanaki. Ook bekend als de People of the Dawn, leefden de Wabanaki in Bar Harbor lang voordat het Bar Harbor was. De oprichter van het museum, Robert Abbe, wilde die lange geschiedenis eren en het museum heeft nu tentoonstellingen over 12.000 jaar inheemse geschiedenis in de regio.
Het dorpsplein van Bar Harbor is niet zomaar een oud park. Het is ontworpen door Beatrix Farrand, die ook de rozentuin in het Witte Huis heeft ontworpen! Het beschikt over een straatklok uit 1896, een historische muziektent en een fontein in de stijl van 17e-eeuwse Italiaanse fonteinen.
Balance Rock is een ongewoon monument dat direct naast het Shore Path ligt. Het is een grillige gletsjer, wat betekent dat een gletsjer hem een heel lange weg heeft gesleept voordat hij hem hier neerzette. Deze rots is naar schatting ongeveer 40 mijl verplaatst voordat hij zijn winkel in Bar Harbor opzette!
Grant Park, ooit de locatie van een herenhuis uit de Gilded Age, is nu gewoon een aangename groene ruimte aan de oceaan waar iedereen van kan genieten. Als u op zoek bent naar de ideale picknickplek, dan is dit de plek!
De Bar Harbor Inn is een badplaats met een zeer lange en gecompliceerde geschiedenis. Het was ooit een leeszaal waar de rijke inwoners van Bar Harbor literatuur en de dagelijkse dingen bespraken. The audio tour worked well until we got near the end (points 22 and 23). At that point there was no longer any narrative and not even any message saying this concludes your tour.

We actually really enjoyed the audio tour. It is an easy walk with several places to stop and shop or have a meal or a drink. It was well priced, and I would highly recommend it.

It wasn't clear to me that there wouldn't be a person or a desk to check in with. The harbor master said lots of people show up at his office based on the apps map of starting location abd he has no knowledge whatsoever of the company ... inside the pier shops are other tour desks who have never heard of this company. We spent half an hour stumbling around, going to the Visor Information desk downtown who knew nothing either ... then got within like sto #3 and the audio started playing off the app on my phone.
