De Sint-Franciscuskerk herbergt het getuigenis van het oudste eucharistische wonder van de katholieke wereld. Rond het jaar 700 twijfelde de Basilkische monnik aan de aanwezigheid van Christus in de Eucharistie: tijdens de mis werden de gewijde gastheer en wijn vlees en bloed. De twee overblijfselen, 5 druppels gestold bloed en dunne membranen van vlees zijn bewaard in een zilveren monstrans en een kristalampul Histologische onderzoeken, hebben aangetoond dat het menselijk bloed en hartweefsel met dezelfde bloedgroep (AB) is. Het heiligdom wordt elk jaar bezocht door duizenden pelgrims uit de hele wereld. Het heiligdom van Manoppello wordt erkend als het ware gezicht van Jezus Christus. Vanaf 1646 wordt het Heilige Gezicht blootgesteld aan de verering van mensen. Het is een zachte sluier, de schering en de inslag zijn met elkaar verweven in de vorm van een normaal weven en het gezicht van de lijkwade van Turijn en die van Manoppello beide stoffen waren op het lichaam van Jezus gelegd.

Rome is zowel het begin- als het eindpunt van de tour, omdat je twee uur moet rijden naar Lanciano en vervolgens nog twee uur terug van Manoppello naar je accommodatie.
De stad Lanciano is vooral een bakermat van kunst vanwege de aanwezigheid van talloze monumenten, beginnend bij het heiligdom van het eucharistische wonder dat het getuigenis van het oudste eucharistische wonder van de katholieke wereld bewaart. Rond het jaar 700 uitte een basilische monnik in de oude kerk van San Legonziano zijn twijfels over de aanwezigheid van Christus in de eucharistie. Tijdens de mis veranderden de gewijde gastheer en wijn echt in vlees en bloed. De overblijfselen worden bewaard in een monstrans die wordt bewonderd door duizenden gelovigen.
In het heiligdom van Manoppello bevindt zich in een vitrine wat wordt beschouwd als het ware gelaat van Jezus Christus. Volgens een legende meldde een pelgrim zich in 1506 bij de natuurkundige Giacomo Antonio Leonelli en overhandigde hem het kostbare geschenk. De sluier bleef tot 1608 in het huis van Leonelli, waarna hij werd gestolen door een avonturier en verkocht aan Donatantonio De Fabritiis. Deze schonk de sluier vervolgens aan de kapucijner pater Clemente da Castelvecchio, die het relikwie tussen twee glazen met een notenhouten lijst plaatste. Vanaf 1646 wordt het Heilige Gelaat tentoongesteld ter verering door het volk. Het is een zachte sluier, de schering en inslag zijn op de gebruikelijke manier met elkaar verweven. Het doek meet 17 x 24 cm en toont de afbeelding van een mannengezicht met lang haar en een baard, verdeeld in banen; het is het enige geval ter wereld waarbij de afbeelding aan beide zijden identiek zichtbaar is.

Incredible pilgrimage! It was a faith deepening experience. Two absolutely amazing miracles! The heat muscle and blood of Jesus in the flesh is the first Eucaristic Miracle of it's kind and had been proven to be human heart tissue and human type AB blood. To be in it's presence and see it with our own eyes was amazing and profound. Then the face of the veil is striking, and when that image is overlayed with the images from other veils, the result is spectacular. This is definitely a worthwhile pilgrimage. I took this trip with my wife. We rode in a luxury car with a great driver through beautiful mountains. Our tour guide was excellent and knowledgeable, and able to help translate things to English from Italian. The miracles were really special. With the advanced notice we gave them, they were able to accommodate our vegan dietary restrictions for a great lunch. It was an excellent 12 hour day. I highly recommend it!

Francisco and our driver were amazing. They took very good care of us. The information Francisco shared at each site was very knowledgeable. We were not rushed at either site, Francisco was very patient giving us plenty of time for prayer. We wish all of our tour guides were as good at their job as Francisco is. Our driver was very careful in traffic and always available for extra help. The excellent Italian lunch was wonderful, Francisco's choices for food was tasty and very Italian. Foods we had not tried.

This was a day trip to see both the Eucharistic Miracle of Lanciano and the Holy Face at Mannopello. Both holy places are unforgettable and going with Rome Italy Explora made the trip both safe and comfortable. I was able to spend a sufficient amount of time to pray during the visit to these 2 holy places. The tour guide, Maria Luisa and the driver, Florian both exhibited professionalism and ensured I was comfortable throughout the trip. Maria Luisa is highly fluent in English and was able to demonstrate expert knowledge on historical and cultural aspects and even give tips on places to eat at her own initiative. They were both considerate of my concerns and preferences for the entire trip and I am glad I was with them. Our family of 5 from the US booked this trip as an excursion for a day to get out of busy Rome. A beautiful trip to the more rural Adriatic side of Italy. Two deeply moving spiritual sites that cannot be expressed with words. Francesco and Roberto took amazing care of us for the day and also sprinkled in some walks of the local towns along the way, local food (amazing arrosticini!!), and other surprises we appreciated. This was a near 12-hour return journey. The 2 drivers ensured the long drive was undertaken safely. Our guide Rossana exercised flexibility to accommodate my less mobile elderly sister. As requested, she even arranged a private Mass for my group at Lanciano although, for convenience, we joined a group from Australia for Mass instead. At Manopello, she arranged for Friar Fr. Abel to recount the history of the Holy Face and explain its deeper meaning to us. This trip is indeed spiritually uplifting.

The Eucharistic miracle of Lanciano is one of the places that the mysticism and spirituality that defy the physical laws conjugate. Seeing that piece of desiccated flesh and blood brings you closer to God. You won’t find architectural attractions here, but a lot of faith. I believe that after the pandemic, it will be a point where many people will go to renew their faith, give thanks and find comfort. I totally recommend it
