Porto werd een economische macht tijdens het Tijdperk van Ontdekkingen, tussen de XV en de XVII eeuw. Prins Hendrik de Zeevaarder, de vader van de Ontdekkingen, werd hier geboren en de stad werd een van de grootste scheepswerven van Portugal. In het begin van de achttiende eeuw werd de Dourovallei opgericht als een beroemd wijngebied en het speelde een belangrijke rol in de ontwikkeling van de stad. We got an excellent overview of Porto which is what we wanted. Vini was very knowledgeable and flexible. He was able to change some of sites based on things we had already seen and the questions we were asking. There were four of us on the tour.

Monica is an amazing guide and provides excellent history and cultural information and insights. She asks for your special interests and we visited some beautiful areas and shops and she helped us identify authentic and family owned shops. We had a tour with Felipe in May 2026. Above being super kind and funny, this guide was also demonstrating a deep knowledge of the history of the city and Portugal in general. It’s literally a passionate art history/human history seminar under the sun in one of the most beautiful city I ever set foot in. We booked via Free Tour - you leave the amount you feel like to the guide at the end of the tour (10-20 euros). Totally worth it and I couldn’t recommend enough. This guy brought me back to my art history classes I took in the past, and his passion made me want to learn new things again. As a musician from Montreal who tried several times to live from his craft but failed, Felipe’s passion greatly resonated with me. Thanks!

We had paid the fee on booking only to be told on arrival that the guide was not paid but we were expected to pay 10 to 15 euros per person at the end! The tour covered some history but not the local geography. The guide was more interested in feeding the stray cats!
You paid 1,00 euro to book the tour on Viator and it's explained on the description of the tour that this is a Pay a you wish Tour and our guests decide at the end how much the guide deserves. We normally give an idea to our guests of the expected payment at the beginning of the tour and that's what she has done. Sorry you felt this way.
Filipe was a great guide. Tour covered a lot of ground and was very informative. Group was large but manageable.

I saw the reviews and the price and they both seemed too good to be true but I am now a believer: I'd pay twice the price we paid for the quality of tour we got from Gianfranco. He was warm, engaging, incredibly well informed, and flexible. Absolutely, positively highly recommend this company!
