Deze dagtrip vanuit York biedt de mogelijkheid om het Yorkshire Dales National Park te verkennen met een kennismaking met Herriot Country, inclusief het pittoreske stadje Grassington (beroemd vanwege zijn rol als het fictieve stadje 'Darrowby' in de nieuwe 'All Creatures Great and Small ' televisieserie), Masham (traditionele marktstad in Lower Wensleydale), Bolton Abbey (waar u de prachtige omgeving van de ruïnes van het 12e-eeuwse Augustijner klooster zult zien) en de traditionele kalkstenen watervallen van de Yorkshire Dales in Linton. We gaan naar Lower Wenslydale, waar uw gids u vertelt over de geschiedenis en kenmerken van het gebied. De eerste stop is bij het traditionele marktstadje Masham in Lower Wensleydale, dat meer dan 700 jaar geleden in 1251 zijn markthandvest verkreeg. Hier leer je wat over de geschiedenis van de stad van je gids en zie je de overblijfselen van een Angelsaksische kruisschacht , vermoedelijk ongeveer 1300 jaar oud, in de kerk van St. Mary the Virgin, verken de leuke winkeltjes of geniet gewoon van een ontspannen Yorkshire brouwsel en wat cake in een van de cafés op het plein - de keuze is aan jou!
We rijden door Masham Moor, waar de schapen vrij rondlopen tussen de heide en het uitgestrekte open landschap, op weg over de toppen naar Nidderdale. De fantastische uitzichten en het landschap over het Gouthwaite-reservoir en de kilometerslange stapelmuren maken het perfect voor een aantal geweldige fotostops. We komen aan in het pittoreske stadje Grassington, beroemd om zijn rol als de fictieve stad 'Darrowby' in de nieuwe televisieserie 'All Creatures Great and Small', voor het eerst uitgezonden in 2020. Hier heb je 1,5 uur vrije tijd om de winkels, cafés en filmlocaties of bezoek zelfs de Devonshire Arms pub (The Drovers in All Creatures Great and Small) voor een drankje met de lokale bevolking!
We verlaten Grassington en begeven ons naar de prachtige Linton Falls. Het is slechts een heel klein eindje rijden, dus als je wilt, heb je de mogelijkheid om vanaf de parkeerplaats van het bezoekerscentrum een korte wandeling te maken over het oude stenen pad naar de watervallen bij Linton en je gids te ontmoeten op de brug over de rivier de Wharfe .
De belangrijkste middagstop is in Bolton Abbey, waar de toegang gratis is en je de Priorijkerk en ruïnes van de 12e-eeuwse Augustijnse Priorij in zijn prachtige omgeving aan de rivier kunt verkennen, of misschien de stapstenen uitdaging aangaat als je je avontuurlijker voelt !
We verlaten Bolton Abbey en vervolgen onze reis door de Dales terug naar York, passeren door Harrogate en leren een beetje over de geschiedenis van dit beroemde kuuroord.

The scenery of the Dales was spectacular! The trip to Grassington was lovely as I’m an avid fan of All Creatures Great and Small. Our driver Chris was knowledgable, friendly and quite the historian. He also was kind and accommodating, I highly recommend this tour! It would be a great idea to add Helen’s farm into the tour.
We had a wonderful excursion in the Yorkshire Dales with our driver and guide, Chris! The scenery was bucolic and the entire experience was delightful. I highly recommend this tour! We did the Yorkshire Dales trip in June. The landscape was stunning, our driver, Chris, was friendly and knowledgeable, the bus was comfortable, and every stop was well planned. We did a similar Cotswold tour a few years ago, and we liked this even better.

Best investment we made for our Yorkshire area visit! Our guide was fun, knowledgeable, and easy to understand, providing Interesting narration throughout the drive and rich insights on the areas we visited. We especially hoped to visit a wool dealer and he located one for us. Plenty of great photo ops and time to explore villages, shop, and grab a meal or tea. Chris was our driver and tour guide. He was extremely friendly and very informative about all the places that we drove through and all the places that we stopped. I use a walker and it was always out and waiting for me when I got off the bus. He is great at his job and the way that he interacts with people.
