Alle tours worden geleid door mij, Jonna, een lokale helsinkian en de oprichter van Rento Helsinki Tours. Je kunt de bezienswaardigheden van Helsinki in een rustig tempo verkennen en meer te weten komen over de geschiedenis, cultuur en samenleving van het land. U kunt al uw vragen stellen en aangezien de groepsgrootte beperkt is tot 8, krijgt u meer interactie met uw gids. Je hoort verhalen die alleen iemand die in Finland is geboren en getogen, zou weten. Na de rondleiding weet je waarom er een standbeeld van een Russische tsaar op het beroemdste plein van Helsinki staat? Is Finland echt het gelukkigste land ter wereld? Het belangrijkste plein van de stad en het uitzicht op een ansichtkaart van Helsinki. Hier zien we de kathedraal van Helsinki, de oude senaat, de universiteit van Helsinki, de nationale bibliotheek en het standbeeld van Alexander de II. Op het Senaatsplein leer je over het verleden van Helsinki, hoe de stad zich ontwikkelde van een klein vissersdorpje tot een bruisende hoofdstad van Finland.
De belangrijkste bezienswaardigheid van Helsinki, de machtige kathedraal van Helsinki, ingehuldigd in 1852. Doe mee aan deze tour en leer anekdotes over dit beroemde gebouw. De architect van de kathedraal van Helsinki had eigenlijk een hekel aan Helsinki, hoe zit dat? Wat is de belangrijkste religie van Finland? Wanneer komen Finnen samen om te picknicken bij de trap voor de kathedraal?
De Bank of Finland, een gebouw uit 1883 direct achter de kathedraal van Helsinki. Hier ontmoet je het standbeeld J.V Snelman, een 19e-eeuwse dichter en filosoof die grote invloed had op de nationalistische beweging van het pre-onafhankelijke Finland. Je leert ook waarom er grote kogelgaten in het standbeeld van Snellman zitten?
Het House of the Estate is een prachtig neorenaissancegebouw, waar de verschillende landgoederen van het 19e-eeuwse Finland bijeenkwamen om over politiek te discussiëren. Tijdens deze halte leer je over het politieke systeem van Finland.
De grootste orthodoxe kathedraal van Noordwest-Europa. Waarom is het echter in een Luthers land gevestigd?
Deze halte is gewijd aan praten over SAUNA. Finns favoriete tijdverdrijf, en dat ene ding waar alle Finnen liefde voor delen. Je leert over het belang van sauna's in ons dagelijks leven, en je leert ook wat de sauna-etiquette is.
Het beroemde marktplein van Helsinki. Geliefd bij toeristen en de lokale bevolking. We passeren de markt en praten over de Finse gastronomie. Op het marktplein zie je ook het President's Palace en het stadhuis van Helsinki.
Pittoresk park in Parijse stijl in het hart van Helsinki. Hier ontmoet je het beeld waar meeuwen het meest van houden.
Helsinki Centraal Station uit 1919, door een beroemde Finse architect, Eliel Saarinen. We zullen er langs lopen en commentaar geven op het brede en ongelooflijke spoorwegnet van Finland. Op het Spoorwegplein zie je ook onze National Gallery, Ateneum en het National Theatre of Finland.
De laatste (en de beste) stop van de tour. Oodi Central Library wordt beschouwd als een van de beste openbare bibliotheken ter wereld, en voor mij persoonlijk beschouw ik het als mijn tweede woonkamer. Ooit een bibliotheek gezien met opnamestudio's, 3D-printers, lunchrestaurant, bordspellen en zaagmachines? Om de boeken natuurlijk niet te vergeten. Om de rondleiding af te sluiten, krijg je een uitgebreide bibliotheekrondleiding en ik beloof je dat je versteld zult staan van deze bibliotheek.

Jonna was very knowledgeable and answered all our questions. She was friendly, a great storyteller of history, and made sure we were all comfortable (letting us pick sun or shade for several stops and ensuring we took routes that have fewer stairs as my step-dad has a hard time with them). She made sure to understand what we wanted out of the tour up front so she could deliver that (and more). We got to see and better understand several really interesting places and how the Finnish country has changed over time. Our whole group of 6 thought she did a fantastic job.

We were originally booked to tour with Jonna but they were unwell so they offered to move us to the same tour with a different guide Emek, this was handled really smoothly without any issues, The actual tour was fantastic, Emek was really knowledgeable and showed us things that we wouldn't have seen had we just toured on our own, The library being one of the highlights, We learnt about the history and culture of Finland and gained an insight into life there, it was a great introduction to the city and Emek was able to suggest other things to do during our stay, Being part of a small group worked well as it was a nice to meet other travellers, the tour was not rushed and everyone got chance to ask questions and we even had time for coffee and cake. I would definitely recommend this tour !

It was a very educational and exciting tour through downtown Helsinki. Jonna is a great guide. She quickly understood how to adapt to what is interesting and important for us. Thus, we learned a lot about the history, but especially about today's life in Finland and Helsinki. Two and a half hours is a perfect timeframe for the tour, and Jonna really made good use of the time. Finally, there were some tips for restaurants and other attractions in Helsinki. A perfect tour! Highly recommended.

The was a superb walking tour. I was going to book another tour then I saw this one and read the reviews, all 5 star. I booked it for my wife, me and our two German “ daughters” ( our exchange students from 25 years ago) and her husband. Jonna was an outstanding guide. She was knowledgeable and had a great sense of humor. We did 6 or 7 different tours on our trip and this was one of the best, if not the best. We all would highly recommend it.
