Terwijl het grootste deel van het bezoek hier zal worden doorgebracht! We zullen alle populaire haltes met commentaar behandelen. De volgende gebieden worden bezocht: Volcano House, Visitor Center, Kilauea kijken uit op de Halemaumau Krater, stoomopeningen en zwaveldioxide banken, Kilauea Iki Krater, Laumanu Krater en Nahuku lavabuis.
De grootste en lokaal geteelde groenten en fruit zijn verkrijgbaar in Hilo Farmers markt die gunstig gelegen is in de historische Hilo Town. Gasten krijgen een uur voor de lunch in dit gebied vol met restaurants en lokale winkels.
Een van de meest iconische watervallen die langs de wailuku rivier loopt gelegen in Hilo. Bekend om Regenbogen die scène kan zijn wanneer de zon raakt de mist hieronder. Veel tropische bomen en planten te bekijken en aan te raken in dit gebied, waaronder een beroemde 1/4 acre Banyan Tree die veel toeristen en de lokale bevolking houden van klimmen en schommelen van.
Verken een historische 24acre botanische tuin in de buurt van de Hilo Bay die vele soorten eucalyptusbomen, Monkey pod bomen en eiland tropische vegetatie huisvest. Veel bruggen over zoutwaterpoelen vol tropische vissen kunnen worden bekeken en verkend. Heel vaak zijn hier ook Hawaïaanse Ganzen te zien die Nene's (staatsvogel) worden genoemd.
Een exclusieve lokale snoepfabriek waar bezoekers hun beroemde eiland delicatessen kunnen proeven zoals de vele macadamia notenkoekjes gedoopt in een verscheidenheid aan chocolade. Ook gratis proefmonsters van Kona of Kau koffie! Ervaar en bekijk de productieploeg door grote ramen terwijl ze hun geweldige producten zorgvuldig maken, behandelen en verpakken!
Een populair Black Sand Beach in Hilo bekend om Honu's (hawaïaanse groene zeeschildpadden) die zwemmen en ontspannen in de zoutwater getijdenpoelen. Hier surfen toeristen en locals, zwemmen, snorkelen en verkennen de vele activiteiten die beschikbaar zijn op dit eilandparadijs of vinden een koele plek onder een kokosnootboom om rond te hangen!

There are many options for tours of the volcano, but we chose the one with Justin. We were so excited to be with him. Being a local he has extensive knowledge about every site we visited. We learned so much about the culture, the people, the history in the island itself. He knows the right places to go for pictures and just the right amount of time to spend at each site. Justin at Makaio Tours made sure we had a wonderful experience touring the volcano and waterfall sites on Hilo. He got us in to see the volcano eruption before the crowds and knew the best locations to get the best views. He is a native Hawaiian who knows native lore as well as being extremely knowledgeable about all aspects of the volcano, local plants, geology and culture. His earlier radio DJ experience mixed with his local upbringing made for a very fun atmosphere. You can tell he truly loves people - it shows. Highly recommended!!!!
We were picked up in a clean new vehicle by a great guy, Justin. The experiences were amazing, beautiful, colorful beaches and waterfalls and we saw lava flow and steam vents at the volcano! Because of the hurricane road closures, we couldn’t see the lava tube, but he took us to a macadamia nut factory and a cookie factory that had a garden with all sorts of cool local plants. And they had samples and delicious ice cream.
Justin was a very friendly, funny and knowledgeable tour guide. We had a great time. We lucked out and saw lava flowing from the volcano.
Fantastic day With Justin! He was a fantastic guide and told us a lot of local stories. We missed the volcanic eruption by one day.☹️ however we did get to see the venting of the volcanoes. Justin shared some pictures he had of past eruptions.

We have been to other islands before but never to the Big Island. All the options, timing and driving looked a little overwhelming… found this tour and booked it. Great decision for us and it will be for you, too. Justin is one of the best - if not the best - tour guide we have ever had. His knowledge of the island, his upbeat personality and accommodating approach to his customers is second to none. And he makes it all so FUN! We saw a lot, learned a lot, and had the best day with Justin. 5 stars hands down!
