Halve dag privé e-bike-tour in Rio

Het idee om een elektrische fietstocht te maken in Rio is geboren uit mijn passie voor fietsen en mijn liefde voor de stad waar ik koos om te wonen. Na een aantal dagen met een gewone fiets door het bos te hebben getrapt, begon ik me af te vragen hoe het mogelijk zou zijn om deze ervaring voor veel meer mensen haalbaar te maken. Zo kwam ik op het idee om elektrische fietsen te kopen die degenen die ze nodig hebben onderweg kunnen helpen. (de fietsen zijn trapbekrachtigd, hebben geen gaspedaal en zijn geen motorfiets) Tijdens deze ervaring krijg je de kans om veel prachtige plekken te leren kennen, niet erg toegankelijk en minder bekend. Aan het eind van de dag heb je een ander beeld van Rio de Janiero en weet je veel meer over hoe de stad is samengesteld en gestructureerd. Daarnaast ben je constant in contact met de natuur, met mogelijke en waarschijnlijke ontmoetingen met toekans, apen en vele andere exotische dieren.

We ontmoeten elkaar op Rua Aarão Reis 105, waar ik je zal laten zien hoe elektrische fietsen werken en je advies zal geven over hoe je de tour kunt aanpakken. We beginnen door de wijk Santa Teresa te fietsen in de richting van Mirante Dona Marta, waarbij we verschillende toeristische punten passeren, zoals het Castelo Valentim, de Mirante Dos Prazeres en de CEAT-school, geïnspireerd op het oude paleis in Florence.
We komen aan bij Mirante Dona Marta, een van de mooiste uitzichtpunten in de stad, waar we de fietsen zullen parkeren en verschillende foto's zullen maken met uitzicht op Christus de Verlosser en Sugar Loaf en ik zal uitleggen hoe de stad is opgebouwd.
Vanaf de Mirante Dona Marta gaan we naar het Centro de Vistante Paneiras (parkeerplaats Christus de Verlosser), waar een badkamer en een bar zijn om even te pauzeren.
Vanaf het Centro de Vistante Paneiras beginnen we het fietspad binnen de wegen van het Tijuca-bos. We passeren talloze ongelooflijke uitzichten over de prachtige stad, we zullen mogelijke ontmoetingen hebben met apen, toekans en andere exotische dieren. We zullen de wijk Alto da Boa Vista bereiken door af te dalen van Corcovado (de berg waar Christus de Verlosser zich bevindt), waar er gelegenheid is om naar de badkamer te gaan en ons op te frissen.
Vanuit de wijk Alto da Boa Vista hervatten we onze tocht in de richting van de tafel van de keizer, met een nieuwe klim die minder vermoeiend zal worden gemaakt met behulp van trapondersteuning. The Emperor's Table is de plek waar keizer Dom Pedro II vroeger picknickte, met een ongelooflijk uitzicht op het zuidelijke deel van Rio de Janeiro.
Vanaf de Tafel van de Keizer beginnen we af te dalen naar de Vista Chinesa, een van de beroemdste en minst toegankelijke uitkijkpunten in de stad. Vanaf hier is het mogelijk om Christus de Verlosser, Sugar Loaf, Lagoa, Ipanema, Guanabara Bay en vele andere plaatsen in de stad te zien. Ik zal verschillende souvenirfoto's maken en we beginnen aan de laatste afdaling naar Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas.
Vanaf de Vista Chinesa dalen we af richting Lagoa, langs de Horto-watervallen (plaats waar het mogelijk is om te stoppen om foto's te maken en een snel bad te nemen) en langs de Rio Botanical Garden. We rijden een groot deel van het Lagoa-fietspad, waar er verschillende ongelooflijke uitzichten zijn op Rio, richting Copacabana.
We komen ten zuiden van het strand van Copacabana aan en leggen het hele fietspad af richting Botafogo.
Vanuit Copacabana volgen we het fietspad en bereiken we het strand van Botafogo, waar we een spectaculair uitzicht hebben op de Sugar Loaf.
Vanaf het strand van Botafogo vervolgen we het fietspad dat ons naar het mooiste en beroemdste park van Rio, de terro do Flamengo, brengt. We zullen het bijna volledig afdekken, langs het Flamengo-strand, en we keren terug naar het startpunt, Santa Teresa, met uitzicht op de laatste klim van de dag.
We komen aan in Santa Teresa en passeren de beroemdste en meest toeristische straat van de buurt, waar ik je botiques en restaurants zal laten zien. Vanaf Largo dos Guimaraes gaan we naar het startpunt (een paar meter verderop) waar de tour zal eindigen.

We did the tour with Stefano from www.vitacarioca.com (I recommend visiting his page for more details and other tours) on the first day we arrived in Rio and we were delighted. I can say it was the best experience in Rio, on par with Christ the Redeemer or Sugarloaf Mountain, but with the advantage of not having the crowds of those places. If you want to escape the typical crowded tours, this is your option; being able to go through the jungle with hardly anyone around is priceless. Jungle, beautiful landscapes, stunning views, and Stefano was a 10, very friendly, talking about the animals, giving city and food tips, etc. The bicycles were excellently maintained; they were not heavy even without electric assistance (I have tried others that felt like moving a dead weight without it), and they come with spare batteries. Everything was very well planned. Although the tour is not advertised in Spanish, do not hesitate to do it if you only speak Spanish, as he speaks and understands it perfectly at 95%. I had a fantastic experience with Vita Carioca and would definitely recommend their e-mountainbike tours. Communication was smooth from the start—everything was arranged via WhatsApp, and I could easily discuss route options in advance. They generally suggest different routes in Tijuca National Park (around 30–50 km) as well as a more urban option; I chose the longer park tour and it was absolutely worth it. Despite Rio’s heat, the temperature in the park was surprisingly comfortable, and with the e-bikes the distance is very manageable. I especially appreciated how safe everything felt—no riding through favelas—and how you get to see a completely different, green side of Rio that’s easy to miss otherwise. The guide was attentive and well-organized, even coordinating with my Uber driver beforehand to ensure a safe ride to Santa Teresa. Along the way, we had plenty of scenic stops, amazing views of Corcovado, and even spotted two sloths. The equipment was high quality (helmet included), and you can adjust the difficulty easily by controlling the level of assistance on the bike. After the tour, I received lots of great photos and videos, and the guide even dropped me off at the Selarón Steps, which was a nice extra touch. Overall, a really enjoyable and unique way to explore Rio.

If you’re after a unique and energetic view of Rio this is the tour for you. Stefano guided us through some amazing parts of Rio that most tourist would not experience. Being on an e-bike gave us a real connection to the environment which included the forest as well as the city and beaches. We saw several types of monkeys, turtles, toucans and lots of other birds. We covered 50km in 6 hours which should be considered when booking this. Totally worth the effort. Thanks Stefano for a memorable tour.

Our e-bike tour was the highlight of our trip to Rio. The ride started at our guides local suburb, which gave us more authentic feel of the city. Great bikes that made things effortless so we could relax and enjoy the views. Stefano was friendly, knowledgeable and made sure we felt safe navigating both the greener areas and the coastal paths. We’ve been visiting Rio for many years. This tour provided by Stefano was so much fun. We were able to see things from a perspective we’ve never seen before. Stefano did an excellent job leading us up and down the hills and throughout the city. This was one of our favorite memories from our trip. Not to mention we impressed our adult kids doing 50k and surviving. Thanks once again Stefano- we are definitely coming back and bringing our kids on this tour.
