Het fort zelf is een van de grootste middeleeuwse vestingwerken in India — 15 grote torens, 51 kleine torens en 446 openingen over 11 kilometer muren, met een akoestisch systeem dat zo nauwkeurig is ontworpen dat een enkele handklap bij de basispoort duidelijk hoorbaar is bij de koninklijke appartementen 90 meter boven. De Qutub Shahi Tombes in de buurt zijn de mausoleums van de zeven koningen die Golconda bouwden, gelegen in tuinen waar zelfs criminelen die hun toevlucht zochten traditioneel gratie kregen. De architectonische mix van Perzische, Pathaanse en hindoeïstische stijlen is nergens anders in India te vinden. Shashi was an amazing guide! She shared so much, not just during the tour but from the moment she picked us up. She shared lots of detailed information about the sites but also about the culture and the city itself. She also brought us to a very local and authentic tea house, where we had the best cookies of our life! It is a bit expensive for a half day tour; but compared to other cheaper tours we did in other cities, this one was by far the best! It was an unforgettable tour which we can’t but recommend!

My husband and I booked this tour as a way to learn some of the history of the city. “Jolly Jon”, our tour guide, picked us up in a car with a driver and took us to see the fort and nearby tombs of the royal family. Absolutely fascinating! Jon is passionate about sharing the history of his city and country. We were really able to envision life in the fort and surrounding area. This was a tour we won’t forget and would highly recommend.
