Maak een wandeltocht door de oude wijk, die vroeger bekend stond om zijn '36 gildestraten', maar er schuilen nog steeds mysteries en verhalen om elke hoek. Wanneer je het combineert met de Franse wijk, die totaal andere architectuur, gebouwen en sfeer heeft, krijg je een geheel nieuw, intrigerend gevoel van nostalgie naar de algemene schoonheid en cultuur van de hoofdstad Hanoi.

Het gemeenschappelijke huis Kim Ngân ligt aan de Hang Bac-straat in de oude wijk van Hanoi. Het is een van de drie gebouwen die zijn gebouwd voor sociale bijeenkomsten en de aanbidding van een legendarische figuur die wordt vereerd als de uitvinder van alle beroepen. Tijdens het conflict in Indochina werd het gebouw gebruikt als opleidingscentrum voor verpleegsters en troepen, maar ook als collegezaal voor het onderwijzen van Vietnamees geromaniseerd schrift. Van 1954 tot en met 2009 woonden er een aantal gezinnen, maar in 2009 waren de overige 25 huishoudens verhuisd in een poging het gebouw te herstellen tot een goede benadering van het oorspronkelijke ontwerp. De reparatiewerkzaamheden werden uitgevoerd door specialisten uit het Hoan Kiem-district met technische ondersteuning uit Toulouse, Frankrijk.
Bezoek het prachtig gerenoveerde Heritage House (ook bekend als "Memorial House") om een beter beeld te krijgen van de indeling van de buiswoningen. Meestal zal een vrijwilliger u begeleiden door de vele kamers en binnenplaatsen en u wijzen op het prachtige houtsnijwerk op de deuren en balustrades, evenals op de tentoongestelde exemplaren van traditionele beeldende kunst en handwerk, zoals keramiek en zijden schilderijen. Een kalligraaf kan in een hoek zijn vak uitoefenen, terwijl een naaister aan een geborduurd schilderij werkt. Sommige goederen zijn te koop en kunnen een uniek aandenken zijn. De Bach Ma-tempel, gebouwd in de 11e eeuw tijdens het bewind van keizer Ly Thai To, is de oudste in zijn soort en een belangrijk bouwwerk in de Vietnamese religie. Het is toegestaan om de tempel te bezoeken; Er is echter gepaste kleding vereist om respect te tonen aan de monniken die daar wonen.
President Ho Chi Minh schreef eind augustus 1945 de Onafhankelijkheidsverklaring waarmee de Democratische Republiek Vietnam werd opgericht, in het huis aan de Hang Ngang-straat nr. 48 in Hanoi. Historische artefacten en bewijsmateriaal dat verband houdt met president Ho Chi Minh zijn bewaard gebleven.
Het Hoan Kiem-meer is een van de meest herkenbare meren van Vietnam, gelegen in het hart van de oude wijk. Turtle Tower wordt omgeven door vredige wateren en natuurlijke schoonheid. Aan de zijkant bevindt zich de Ngoc Son-tempel, een 18e-eeuwse pagode die toegankelijk is via de Huc-brug, een prachtige rode en houten loopbrug. Het heiligdom eert de militaire commandant Tran Hung Dao, die in de 13e eeuw tegen Mongoolse indringers vocht. Maak een wandeling rond het meer en kies een café waar je kunt zitten en genieten van de prachtige kleuren van het meer en de straatartiesten. Dit kun je het beste doen in het weekend tussen 19.00 uur. Vrijdag en 12.00 uur Zondag, wanneer voertuigen verboden zijn, waardoor wandelaars een zeldzame kans krijgen om de straten te domineren. Het Hoan Kiem-meer, ook wel het gerestaureerde zwaardmeer genoemd, is bekend onder Vietnamezen. Volgens de legende schonk een schildpad een magisch zwaard aan Le Loi, een oude krijgsheer, die het gebruikte om de binnenvallende Chinese Ming-dynastie te vernietigen voordat hij het teruggaf aan zijn ware eigenaar, de drakenkoning.

De Sint-Jozefkathedraal is een katholieke kerk aan de Nhà Chung-straat, in het Hoàn Kiếm-district van Hanoi, Vietnam. Het is een laat 19e-eeuwse neogotische kerk (neogotische stijl) die dienst doet als kathedraal van het rooms-katholieke aartsbisdom Hanoi. De kathedraal is vernoemd naar Jozef, de patroonheilige van Vietnam.

Overall an amazing and very mind opening experience for a first timer in Vietnam especially Hanoï. We got to learn quite a few things that we didn't know about the country. Pamela, our tour guide was super nice, very welcoming and knowledgeable. 10/10 would highly recommend booking for a first time visiting Hanoï.

Honestly it was great our tour guide was truly amazing. We got to see and understand a lot of Vietnamese culture and history.
Tracey picked us up at another location punctually... She made us visit the White Horse Temple. The Outlet market and bargained the prices. Went to Train Street. Visited the Cathedral. And drank the famous Vietnamese egg coffee. Really a stunning visit. I recommend Tracy. Young intelligent student.

Kokonut (Giang) is our guide. He showed and has given us lovely morning strolling in the old quarter with so many historical details. Eventhough it was raining but he did prepared a plastic rain coat for us. And we did a walk in the rain it was beautiful and very new experience to us.

I had an absolutely brilliant walking tour in Hanoi, and it was easily one of the highlights of my trip. A huge part of that was down to my guide, Hazel, who was fantastic from start to finish. We spend a wonderful half day with our tour guide Albert, who was so kind hearted and knowledgeable.
