Uw tour begint met het bezoek van het "Museum Sum 1916". Deze geeft je een goede introductie en helpt je de levensomstandigheden van de soldaat te begrijpen. Dit ondergrondse museum heeft een van de grootste collecties objecten uit de eerste oorlog. Het bezoek zal worden geleid.
De "Lochnagar-krater" is het resultaat van de explosie van de grootste mijn die plaatsvond op de eerste dag van de Slag om de Somme. "Met een diepte van 30 meter en een breedte van 90 meter is het een van de meest meest indrukwekkende van de Somme Je gids zal het begin van de strijd toelichten.
Van de 421 begraafplaatsen van de CWGC in het departement Somme, is het de derde grootste. 2.758 soldaten zijn daar begraven of herdenkingsmunten. Je gids zal uitleggen hoe elk land omgaat met zijn doden na de oorlog, de schandalen in verband met deze taak, de geboorte van het IWGC en de filosofie die is aangenomen bij de bouw van deze begraafplaatsen. Speciale aandacht zal worden besteed aan de uitleg van de Britse graven.
Op 45 meter hoog is het Memorial of the Disappeared het grootste Britse monument ter wereld. Meer dan 72.000 namen van Britse of Zuid-Afrikaanse soldaten die vochten vóór 20 maart 1918 zijn ernstig op de muren. Dit zal een gelegenheid zijn om te praten over de impact van de eerste wereldoorlog op burgers en het concept van "verdwenen", evenals het strategische aspect van de Slag om de Somme.
Het "Newfoundland Memorial Park" is de enige plaats in de Somme waar u de overblijfselen van een slagveld kunt vinden en waar u zowel in de loopgraven als de soldaten van de eerste oorlog kunt wandelen. Deze plaats vertegenwoordigt het offer van de Newfoundlanders tijdens de Slag om de Somme. Je gids zal je vertellen over de toestand van soldaten in de loopgraven en de gebeurtenissen die hebben geleid tot de massale verzorging van Newfoundlanders.

My two sons (aged 11 and 13) and I did a four-hour private tour of the Somme, the 1916 Museum, and the main sites in Albert. I could not recommend this tour more highly. Our guide, Brigitte, has a deep knowledge of WWI history and how the battle of the Somme played out over the years in the area, especially since she grew up there. Her enthusiasm was contagious, and she excelled at engaging my children and engaged them for the full four hours. She was incredibly accommodating of our interests and timeline as well. We got so much more out of our visit to see the Somme than we ever could have hoped to do on our own. Worth every penny. She created a wonderful, fascinating, and engaging afternoon in the French countryside that we will never forget.

What a fantastic tour! Dianne was absolutely brilliant, so informative, it was a fascinating afternoon. I went with my wife and mother in law who wanted to find her grandfather’s name on the Thiepval memorial. You get so much more from a tour with a guide who is able to answer all those random questions that come to into your head! Dianne has since helped us to uncover a great deal of information regarding where he fought and even diary accounts from his final days. Thank you for a truly memorable afternoon!

Booked travel and hotel to Albert upon receiving confirmation from Viator. Tour was cancelled 6pm the night before because guide was already booked and I shouldn’t have been able to book it.

We have just returned from the most informative and interesting Battle of Somme tour with Brigitte! It was perfectly tailored to my two sons age 9 & 10. They were fascinated throughout, learning new things in Museum 2016, visiting Lochnagar crater, Thiepval Memorial (where Brigitte successfully showed us how to find family members with our surname) and going into the preserved trenches. I would encourage anyone to book a tour with Brigitte, you learn so much more than doing it by yourself, especially if you have limited time. Also, we came by train so Brigitte was able to drive us everywhere. Thank you so much for such a fantastic experience, Brigitte - l am sure the boys will remember this for the rest of their lives!

Brigette was fantastic - so knowledgeable and interesting. It was 36 degrees today, and she checked with us in advance that we were still OK to go ahead with the tour. She brought water for us and sought out the shady spots where she could. Brigette's English is brilliant, her explanations of the Somme, the Battle itself, events leading up to it and the total devastation that followed really brought everything to life. We would thoroughly recommend this tour, particularly if Bridgette is leading it!
