If you’re considering a cooking class in Antigua, stop searching and book this one!! This experience was easily one of the highlights of our three-week trip through Guatemala and Belize. From the moment we met Milton, we knew we were in for something special. We unfortunately ran late due to transportation issues, but he was incredibly flexible, accommodating, and gracious, immediately putting us at ease. The experience began with a fascinating walk through the local market, where Milton shared insights about Guatemalan culture, ingredients, and daily life that we never would have learned on our own. His knowledge was impressive, but what truly stood out was the way he shared it—with genuine passion, warmth, and humility. The property where the class took place (his house) was absolutely stunning, providing the perfect setting for an unforgettable afternoon. Milton’s son Diego was the perfect sous chef, and Milton helped guide us through the preparation while keeping everything fun and relaxed. Every dish we made was delicious, but the experience was about so much more than the food. Milton has a beautiful aura and one of the calmest, kindest personalities of anyone we’ve met while traveling. Conversation flowed naturally, and by the end of the class we felt like we had spent the day with a friend rather than a teacher. From the market tour to the final meal, every detail was thoughtfully planned and expertly executed. We left with full stomachs, new skills, a deeper appreciation for Guatemala, and wonderful memories we’ll talk about for years. Thank you, Milton and Diego, for such a stellar experience. If you’re visiting Antigua, this is an absolute must-do. I’d give this experience 10 stars if I could. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Our group of medical professionals was in Antigua, Guatemala on a service trip, and on one of our days off we booked Chef Milton’s market tour and cooking class. It ended up being one of the best experiences of our entire trip, and honestly one of our favorite experiences from any vacation we’ve ever taken. The day started with a guided tour through the local market. Chef Milton introduced us to a variety of fruits, vegetables, spices, and foods that were completely new to many of us. His knowledge of Guatemalan culture, food, and traditions made every stop interesting, and we loved learning about ingredients and dishes that are unique to the region. After the market tour, we headed to Chef Milton’s rooftop home kitchen overlooking Antigua. The setting was beautiful (literally watched Mt. Fuego erupt) but the food and experience were even better. We helped prepare several authentic Guatemalan dishes and learned the stories and traditions behind them. Everything we made was incredible, and it was clear how much passion Chef Milton has for sharing his country’s culture through food. What made this experience so special was that it felt authentic from start to finish. It wasn’t just a cooking class. It was an opportunity to connect with Guatemala in a meaningful way. Chef Milton is an outstanding teacher and host for his country. If you’re visiting Antigua, this experience is an absolute must. We left with (very) full stomachs, new friends, and a much deeper appreciation for Guatemala. We cannot recommend Chef Milton highly enough.
Truly exceptional experience. Milton shares his personal story to beautifully paint a picture of Antiguan culture. After touring the local market and teaching us about the local fruits and foods, we proceeded to his house and we cooked a spectacular meal. It was all wonderful and delicious.
What a lovely way to end our week long perfect stay in Guatemala. The only thing I would have changed is to do this excursion at the first of the visit because Milton takes you on a tour of the fabulous market where you are met with extraordinary colors and smells of the city. I was a tad envious of being able to hit the market for beautiful fresh produce and protein every day. Using the fun transportation of tuk tuks, he then took us to his home with a wonderful rooftop kitchen where we prepared some local yummy dishes. Laughter abounded from the small group and Milton was a wonderful hands on teacher. I would highly recommend you spend some time with Milton and enhance your culinary skills!
Milton the chef was the absolute best. Me and my partner were running late, but he responded very quickly when we messaged him in the app and he allowed us to skip the market tour and just meet for the cooking class. The food we made was absolutely delicious, and you could tell Milton had a true passion for Guatemalan food and culture. Learned a lot and had a great time and meal.
Best cooking experience! Not only learning Guatemalan Cuisine, we were also able to learn cooking techniques. From the fresh produce to the location, and of course Milton, and his song Diego, made the best and most incredible cooking experience. I will do it again with more friends and family in the near future. Totally recommend.
Superb. To be completely honest: we almost didn’t do this one. Whom I went with is from Guatemala, different town, but still. As such, we almost chose to just have their family teach us some stuff. I’m glad we stuck with the tour. The market in Antigua is massive. They have everything from fruits, to meats, to clothes and even spices. Milton being from the area gave us insight that we would’ve missed, had we not did the tour. The class itself was self rewarding as you get to make these delicious dishes from start to finish. Absolutely recommend, 11 out of 10. If you want to experience Antigua on a local level, this tour is for you. Try to aim for Saturday when you book, that’s when the market is full of vendors inside and out.
Wonderful experience in a cute house roof top learning to cook traditional Guatemalan dishes. Milton and his assistants were amazing and shared a lot of their knowledge including learning about local ingredients and recipes. From the market to the kitchen and later sharing sinner with a great group of people. It was beautiful. 100% recommend Foodietenango to anyone that will want to learn about local cuisine.
This was truly such a gem of an activity to do while you’re visiting Antigua. Milton is so incredibly knowledgeable about Guatemalan food, and tailors the experience so perfectly for all travelers. Starting the tour in the market was such a treat, especially to be able to get such quality description of everything around us. The cooking class was amazing and hosted on a beautiful rooftop terrace and the food was amazing. Would 11/10 recommend!
A friend recommended this tour after doing it on a previous trip, so my friends and I came in with pretty high expectations, and it completely delivered. The market was one of the highlights. Our guide, Milton, shared so much about Guatemalan culture, ingredients, and everyday life, and it never felt scripted or rushed. I learned a lot while still just having a really fun morning walking through the market. The cooking class was also great because it was hands-on without being overwhelming. There was enough chopping and cooking to feel involved, but also plenty of time to relax and enjoy the food and conversation. It was such a nice way to get to know Guatemala through its cuisine. I’d absolutely recommend this experience to anyone visiting.
