De halve dagtour door Guatemala-stad door een lokale gids is de veiligste manier om de stad te leren kennen. De lokale gidsen rijden je rond langs alle hoogtepunten en historische punten van de stad, met een mooi en comfortabel voertuig. Dompel je onder in de mystieke Maya-beschaving met een bezoek aan het Archeologisch Museum met een unieke uitleg van alle magische stukken die de geschiedenis van Guatemala bevestigen. Daarna rijden we door de beroemdste straten en zones van de stad om te stoppen in het historische centrum van Guatemala-Stad. Voor een twee uur durend bezoek aan de belangrijkste bezienswaardigheden, beginnend bij Constitution Plaza, doorgaand naar het Nationaal Paleis van Cultuur en vervolgens naar de Metropolitan Cathedral, zodat we later rond de Centrale Markt kunnen lopen om te eindigen bij de beroemde 6th Avenue.

Het Nationaal Museum voor Maya-kunst is indrukwekkend om te zien, met zijn recente renovaties kun je enkele van de belangrijkste stukken bewonderen die de geschiedenis van de Maya-beschaving weerspiegelen.

We vervolgen de tour door rond te lopen op de Plaza of Constitution, zodat u de historische gebouwen eromheen beter kunt zien en uitleggen.

De volgende stop is de Metropolitan Cathedral, waar je wat schade kunt zien van de aardbeving die Guatemala-Stad in 1917 en 1918 trof. Dit is de belangrijkste kerk in Guatemala en hier vind je oude schilderijen uit de zestiende eeuw en de oudste maagd gebracht door de Spaanse veroveringen in de vijftiende eeuw. De neoklassieke architectuur zal je wegblazen!
Als we de kathedraal verlaten, gaan we rechtstreeks naar de Centrale Markt om wat souvenirs te kopen of gewoon om de ervaring op te doen van een bezoek aan een van de meest iconische markten van Guatemala. Je wordt ondergedompeld in het kleurrijke textiel, het traditionele eten en het lokale ambacht.
De wandeling door de beroemde laan van Guatemala-Stad is een must! La Sexta is een voetgangersstraat waar u de lokale bevolking dag na dag kunt ervaren. Tijdens deze wandeling kunt u de architectuur van enkele historische gebouwen, de levendige handel en de verschillende beschikbare restaurants en foodcourts zien. Het is een ervaring die je niet wilt missen.

I had a wonderful tour. My guide was very personable and engaging. The guide had to make some adjustments to the itinerary/ schedule due to available times at the Presidential Palace, but if he hadn't told me, I would have never known because it went smoothly.
Esteban was great! Easy pickup from the airport and very knowledgable about the history and culture of the city. I loved how easy it was to tailor the experience for what i was looking for in a private tour. Esteban went above and beyond in making me feel welcomed and making sure I got to my airbnb safely. I really appreciated his help with navigation and translation for my stay.
Our guide, Pamela, was outstanding - she did a fantastic job of helping us understand the significance of the historical center, its architecture and its evolution and pointed out all sorts of little details / places that we would have missed. If you are staying out of the city center - the drive in to the historic district is challenging (we were in Cayala) and time consuming so figure that into your plans. The presidential palace is impressive and interesting but the timing of access can be restricted and is not posted. Pamela did an amazing job of navigating these challenges that are out of her control without a ruffle. Our conversations with her on the educational and political systems were touch points thru out the remainder of our trip.
Pamella was wonderful. A really nice experience. The visit to the government building is kinda meh but the market and museum were great. I appreciated Pamella dropping me at my desired location instead of where she picked me up in the morning. Worth the money for sure.
This was an almost last minute decision and I was so pleased that I decided to go ahead. I have done a private tour before. I like to do group tours but the advantage of a private tour is being able to go at your own pace, particularly if shopping. I had two places that I particularly wanted to see: the National Museum of Archaeology and Ethnology and the Central Market. The entrance fees were included and a bottle of water. The museum was stunningly curated. This is something I've noticed with all the museums in Guatemala City thus far, they are all beautifully curated and we had plenty of time to take it all in. The Central Market was full of atmosphere and I was able to have a good look around and bought some items. We were in time for a group tour of the Palace and I found it fascinating. Fernando was a genial and informative guide. I felt welcome and the tour felt fresh. It was great to be out and about in the city.
This was a half day tour that covered a lot of information. Our guide, Pamela, was very knowledgeable. She was punctual, kind and a joy to be around. I am leaving Guatemala so much more knowledgeable about the history than I was when arrived. That’s all because of Pamela.
