Laat het Guatape-landschap op zichzelf spreken en sta versteld van de Peñol-rots en een van de grootste hydro-elektrische dammen in Colombia.
Dit is een raadselachtige rots waarvan niemand weet waar hij vandaan komt en er zijn allerlei speculaties over de oorsprong ervan. Hoewel het er uitdagend uitziet, zul je merken hoe lonend het zal zijn om de 700 trappen te beklimmen, nadat je een van de meest adembenemende uitzichten hebt gehad die Colombia te bieden heeft.
Als jullie allemaal beneden zijn gekomen, stap je weer in de auto om door de stad El Peñol te rijden en dan naar Guatapé te gaan. Hier tour je door de kleurrijke straten langs de dam en leer je over de geschiedenis achter deze door de mens vervaardigde schoonheid. Tegen die tijd ga je naar een lokaal restaurant voor een heerlijke traditionele lunch.
De dam is ontstaan nadat de oude stad Peñol onder water kwam te staan. Nu is het verantwoordelijk voor het opwekken van energie voor miljoenen mensen. Je bezoekt het tijdens een boottocht na de lunch en bezoekt een van de weinige huizen die zijn overgebleven na de overstromingen, op deze plek heb je een groot stuk geschiedenis achter de stad en bijgeloof.

The Peñol Rock and the town walk were good, but the boat ride was a waste of time. (Don't go to the Boat Ride). I suggest going early in the morning to avoid the crowd.

Julio was the best driver. He drove very well and gave us the best recommendation for lunch. The tour company communicates very well over WhatsApp so we never had any doubts about the booking. Having our own driver meant we got to different spots as quickly as we wanted and didn’t have to wait for a whole tour bus of people. Highly recommend.

We had a wonderful experience with Artur. He picked our family up in a very nice van and took us on the boat ride, we climbed the rock and had a wonderful lunch. The town tour was my favorite part.
