ATT: Algar do Carvão zal gesloten zijn van 19 oktober 2024 tot onbekende datum vanaf nu, tijdens deze periode zullen we in plaats daarvan een verborgen lavabuis laten zien. Tijdens deze tour bezoekt u Algar do Carvão dat is geclassificeerd als een natuurmonument, de kerstgrot, de rookgaten (furnas do enxofre).

Het is een zeer uitgebreide geologische formatie, ontstaan door de vorming van een lavatunnel in het binnenland van het eiland, onderdeel van het natuurreservaat Serra de Santa Bárbara en Mistérios Negros.
Furnas do Enxofre ligt in de parochie van Porto Judeu, in de gemeente Angra do Heroísmo, op het eiland Terceira, op de Azoren. Ze vormen een fumarolisch veld, dat wil zeggen een gebied dat bestaat uit verschillende uitlaten van agressieve vulkanische gassen, met verschillende temperaturen, waarvan sommige vrij hoog.
We gaan in een lavabuis die niet open is voor turisme dus het is allemaal natuurlijk, maar weinig mensen weten waar het is. Je hebt de keuze om naar binnen te gaan of niet.

Bernardo was a great guide! 2 of the caves have an entrance fee. Still great sites. Would def recommend

Fantastic tour. Guide was very knowledgeable. We were the only two people on the your so was like a vip tour. Visited a cave that is not normally open to the public do got to see an unspoilt cave

It was a great tour, even if the weather didn't play along. The sightseeing list included the Gruta do Natal, the Furnas do Enxofre fumarole field and an impromptu drive to a small lagoon. Algar do Carvão was unfortunately not a program item as it was still closed. Our guide had a lot to tell and we had a lot of fun.

Bernardo picked us up promptly from our VRBO and gave us several options on our itinerary as it was raining. We saw things and learned about the island in ways that I would not have learned had we not taken this tour. Disappointed that the highlight cave was closed but we knew that in advance of booking. An extremely interesting tour, Bernardo took us to some very evocative ‘secret’ caves. He was able to convey all his enthusiasm in explaining the island to us on a lovely afternoon (despite the adverse weather). Recommended!

It was a wonderful experience on this tour. Our guides Dora and Bernardo were knowledgable, enthusiastic and professional. We had a chance to interact with Dora, who drove the Jeep, is passionate about the island and its culture. Note that the drive to the caves is in a jeep. If you sit in the back seat, be prepared by a bumpy ride on unpaved roads. Also the lava tube at Biscoitos may be demanding for those with restricted mobility. Other than that, it is great tour.

We asked for tour in Spanish and were two people, so it was a private tour, so great! It is an entertaining and interesting experience, but Dora did it amazing!! He has great knowledge and tells everything in an exciting way, we had an amazing time, and he speaks super good Spanish! A charmer, he told us curiosities along the way about the island, customs, volcanoes... A total hit!!!

Antonio was our guide through Pro Island Tours. Absolutely amazing afternoon. My cousin and I enjoyed a personalised tour, especially tailored to our needs and interests. We saw things off the beaten track, that not many tourists get to see. Not crowded, beautiful and amazingly interesting. Also taken to an amazing lava tube - could not upload photos, but an astonishing experience. Antonio was a nice, gracious, friendly and knowledgeable host. I would thoroughly recommend this tour.
