Begin op de rivier terwijl Cái Răng zich in zijn ochtendritme nestelt. Het ontbijt komt aan vanaf een passerende boot : dampende noedelsoep, sterke Vietnamese koffie en het rustige theater van de rivierhandel dat zich om je heen ontvouwt. Dan valt het hoofdkanaal weg, en maakt plaats voor smalle grachten, tropische tuinen en huizen dicht genoeg om een glimp op te vangen van het dagelijks leven aan het water. Stap binnen in een familieatelier waar rijstnoedels nog steeds met de hand worden gevormd, en ga dan verder onder de bomen naar een cacaotuin die in de jaren 60 is geplant. Proef chocolade gemaakt van fruit tot afgewerkte reep, en hoor het familieverhaal erachter. Een ochtend die begint met een beroemde markt en leidt naar iets veel persoonlijker. Ontmoet een lokale familie in een rustig dorpsatelier waar rijstnoedels nog steeds met de hand worden gemaakt, met geduld, ritme en zorg die zachtjes van de ene generatie op de andere worden doorgegeven. Kijk hoe het rijstbeslag wordt gestoomd tot delicate velletjes, gedroogd onder de Mekong-zon, en vervolgens in zachte noedelstrengen wordt gesneden - waardoor een van Vietnams eenvoudigste dagelijkse voedingsmiddelen wordt omgezet in iets heel persoonlijks. Achter elke stap schuilt een verhaal van familie, rustige veerkracht en de waardigheid van werk dat generaties lang is doorgegeven.
We eindigen onze reis met een wandeling door dorpen in de lokale gemeenschap, waar u een biologische cacaoboerderij bezoekt. De vader van de eigenaar bracht de planten terug van een reis naar Maleisië in 1960, waarmee hij een heel ander gewas in de regio introduceerde. Amazing experience with Tammy and Vy. They made us discover their culture with passion, we had a great time together. I would do it again and again !
Mai was our tour guide and the boat's captain was Mr. Thanh. Both of them were fantastic and the whole experience was amazing. This was definitely one of the highlights of our trip to Vietnam. This experience helped us truly immerse ourselves in the local culture and it was so fun to get to see the lives of all the different people on both boat and land each with a unique life story and such amazing experts of their trades 🤩. What made it even more special was that Mai answered all our queries so kindly and patiently, not just about can tho or mekong but about everything related to Vietnam which gave us a lot of insights into what social life and culture is like here. The tour itself was great, we got to, learn more about the floating market and it's history, visit merchant boats, eat Hu Thieu, drink some good coffee, eat fruits, and visit production farms to see how noodles and chocolates were made. If you are in Can Tho, I highly recommend this experience! Thank you Mai and Mr. Thanh for such a memorable time, we will definitely be back 👋
We took two tours with Mai, a native guide from the region who is perfectly bilingual in English. The floating market, the noodle factory, and then the next day the bamboo basket workshop and the nature reserve. Thanks to Mai, her natural joy and her explanations created unforgettable memories! We had an amazing time visiting the floating market, noodle factory, the cacao farm and taste local fruits. We were picked up directly at our hotel. Our guides Tammy and John were so lovely and energetic. They explained really well. They were really nice with our kids and our kids loved it. I recommend it!
We really enjoyed this tour and would recommend to anyone visiting Can Tho. It certainly was made all the more special by our beautiful tour guide, Mai, who taught us a number of things about the history and future of the floating market and what everyday on the Mekong Delta is like, all with the most exceptional English and the most beautiful smile. We loved Mai so much we recommended her for our Village Cycling Tour we had booked for the following day (also a tour we thoroughly recommend). The floating market is certainly a lot smaller than it used to be, and what a number of the photos show, but we loved experiencing what life on the river is like, enjoying our morning coffee and breakfast, the most delicious fresh Pho purchased from floating market vendors. We were welcomed aboard a local’s traditional houseboat, a very interesting experience to see what life living on the river is like. The tour also included a visit to a rice noodle factory and cocoa factory. We particularly enjoyed the cocoa factory and to understand the many stages required to produce cocoa, and the differences between white, milk and dark chocolate. The iced cold chocolate drink was delicious. All food and drink, including fresh fruit from the market and hotel transfers were included in the tour. Thank you Mai for a wonderful tour.
The tour was truly amazing. The floating market, the rice noodle plantation, and also the chocolate factory, everything was incredibly impressive. You get a very real insight into the lives of the people here! Big praise to Tammy, who gave us the tour. She explained everything to us, and we also laughed a lot during the tour. Tammy repeatedly provided us with fruits and new knowledge!!
It was a fantastic experience. We were picked up at the hotel and had a wonderful day. We saw the Floating Market and were able to visit a rice noodle factory as well as a chocolate factory. Throughout the tour, there was always local food, and the tour guide explained everything very well. I would recommend it to everyone.
Tammy accompanied us lovingly and warmly throughout the entire excursion. We learned a lot about the Mekong Delta, the production of rice noodles, and chocolate. We had a very humorous excursion with Tammy during which we experienced and saw a lot. Tammy spoiled us with various fruits throughout the entire morning and until the end, it was simply a worthwhile excursion.
Our family decided to take this small tour, rather than go on a big boat from our resort, and I am so pleased we did. It was perfect for us. We were picked up from our hotel by Mai and taken to the market where we learnt about local food and fruit. Next, we went to the floating market and had fresh juice, coffee and noodles which were amazing- we were only sorry we couldn’t finish the very generous bowl! Mai showed us around a traditional boat and explained what everyday life is like living on the river. She took the time to answer all our kids questions and we learnt so much about culture and daily life, and the history and future of the market. The rice noodle factory was a grounding experience for our children - to see the hard labour and traditional methods that go into making the delicious noodles we just ate on the river made all of us appreciate the skill and dedication of local people to their way of life, and to provide for their families. Not to mention - so much fun learning how to make the noodles! Our youngest, who is 6, had a great time here and at our next stop - the cocoa farm. This was of course, a highlight for our kids, and we loved learning about the process of making chocolate from tree to final product. The traditional machinery was really interesting and the cold chocolate drinks were delicious. We were so grateful to have Mai as our tour guide. She explained everything to us with patience and all in outstanding English, while teaching us some Vietnamese too. I should mention that we also had the most amazing Captain! He rode the waves from the bigger boats with perfection (also fun for the kids) and helped us on and off the boat at every stop. They both looked after us extremely well, and I can highly recommend this experience, and especially the tour guide Mai, and captain Khung.* *I am unsure of the spelling of this name, my apologies, sounding like ‘Kung’ in English.
We had good luck to have this interesting, fun tour with Mai. We learned a lot about the Mekong Delta and it‘s people, had the chance to go hands on in crafting rice noodles and the opportunity to take many beautiful pictures. Our guide took care of everything around, we had local food, drinks and no need to pay anything extra. 100% recommendable!
