Wat deze plaatsen betreft, gaan we naar het oude tijdperk, omdat ze allemaal worden beschouwd als de oudste tempels ter wereld en Etchmiatsin ook is opgenomen in het UNESCO-werelderfgoed.

"Volgens de overlevering werd de hoofdkerk gebouwd op de plaats waar Miadzin neerdaalde, Etchmiadzin. In Gregorius' visioen toont Christus de plaats van de hoofdtempel met een gouden hamer. De oudste kathedraal ter wereld, gesticht in 303, was voorbestemd om een belangrijke getuige en deelnemer te worden in de geschiedenis van het Armeense volk. Als het belangrijkste centrum van het wereldnetwerk van de Armeense Kerk, wordt de Etchmiadzin-kathedraal nu vertegenwoordigd door een groot gebied, waaronder veel oude en nieuwe kerken, seculiere structuren, bibliotheken, een seminarie, enz."
De reeks glorieuze kerken van de zevende eeuw gaat verder met St. Gayane, die slechts 12 jaar later werd gesticht dan St. Hripsime. Deze kerk, gebouwd in 630, werd gebouwd op het graf van een christelijke maagd die stierf in Armenië aan het einde van de 3e en het begin van de 4e eeuw, ongeveer 3 eeuwen na haar dood. De kerk werd in 1652 gerestaureerd. Op het erf staan veel doodskisten, waaronder beroemde militaire en culturele figuren van het Armeense volk.
Volgens deskundigen wordt de architectuur van Saint Hripsime beschouwd als een van de beste Armeense voorbeelden. Hier werden voor het eerst Armeense nissen gebruikt die seismische weerstand boden. De bouw van de enorme kerk werd voltooid in 618, met een grote architectonische erfenis, waarvan de details nog steeds worden gebruikt.
Zvartnots is vernietigd, maar blijft uniek in termen van spirituele, culturele en architectonische betekenis. Deze enorme kerk, vernoemd naar de engelen, werd 9 jaar gebouwd en ingewijd in 652. De prachtige tempel met een hoogte van 46-49 meter werd verwoest, waarschijnlijk als gevolg van een aardbeving, waarna dergelijke kerken niet meer in Armenië werden gebouwd. Het echte uiterlijk van Zvartnots was lange tijd onbekend totdat architect T. Toramees stelde de werkelijke beginvorm van de kerk voor, die later werd bewezen door andere historische feiten.

It was good to have a direct transportation to the sights and to have an explanation there. Unfortunately, our guide was far from being motivated for his job or interacting with the group or making an individual approach. Maybe he doesn't like his job. I guess sharing a taxi and having the attractions looked up online would have been a way, too.

Tatev is a very atmospheric place, opened up to us through fog and thick clouds. The cable car sank in the fog, sometimes showing below the amazing landscape. Yegor, our guide, gave a very lively and detailed account of the history of the place. Then we went to Hndzoresk. An unusual place whose history stopped not so long ago. The journey was completed at a work of art created by nature itself - a majestic waterfall.
