Reis langs de wereldberoemde Great Ocean Road op een onvergetelijke dagtrip vanuit Melbourne, boordevol iconische bezienswaardigheden en verborgen kustjuweeltjes. Dit legendarische stuk weg staat bekend om zijn dramatische landschap, surfstranden, inheemse wilde dieren, weelderige regenwouden en krachtige uitzichten op de Zuidelijke Oceaan. Spot wilde koala's in hun natuurlijke habitat, dwaal onder torenhoge bomen en geniet van de ontspannen kustsfeer in charmante badplaatsen zoals Apollo Bay. Ontdek de ruige schoonheid van de Shipwreck Coast, verken de prachtige Loch Ard Gorge en geniet van een prachtig uitzicht op de oceaan vanaf de allerbeste uitkijkpunten in Port Campbell National Park. Maak je klaar - ons avontuur begint snel! De bus is onderweg, dus pak je spullen, voel de spanning en laten we gaan! We vertrekken om 7:35 uur stipt vanuit Melbourne, en gaan over de Westgate Bridge richting de surfkust hoofdstad. Het wordt aanbevolen gasten ontbijten voor de tour als we niet stoppen tot halverwege de ochtend.
Geniet van ochtendthee en wilde dieren vanuit het Serendip Sanctuary ten westen van Melbourne op de weg naar de Great Ocean Road.
Als we Melbourne verlaten passeren we de op één na grootste stad van Victoria, bekend als Geelong.
Ontdek de Great Ocean Road
Een monument dat het oorspronkelijke startpunt van de Great Ocean Road markeert. Na enkele foto's bij de iconische Memorial Arch en een les over de geschiedenis van de soldaten die deze weg hebben aangelegd en aan hun gevallen kameraden hebben opgedragen, slingeren we door nog meer verbluffende uitzichten (uiteraard stoppen we voor foto's!)
Zodra we Melbourne hebben verlaten, gaan we naar de Surf Coast, passeren prachtige kustplaatsen zoals Anglesea, Lorne en Airey's Inlet. We stoppen onderweg voor wat ochtendthee en om de frisse zeelucht in te ademen terwijl we surfers spotten op het water. het water, met de nabijheid van Antarctica leer je waarom dit geweldig surfen is, maar ook waarom natte pakken een noodzaak zijn!
Een welkome lunchpauze wordt gehouden in Apollo Bay aan het einde van de surfkust. Je hebt voldoende tijd om deze kustgemeenschap te verkennen en te eten in een van de vele plaatselijke cafés of pubs (op eigen kosten). Nadat je Apollo Bay hebt verkend, de souvenirs hebt gepakt die je wilt kopen, of een heerlijk ijsje hebt geproefd, stap je weer in de bus om landinwaarts te rijden naar de Groene Kust.
tot aan de Great Ocean Road, maar nu verder omhoog naar de weelderige groene Otway's rijden we door torenhoge eucalyptusbomen totdat we bij een stukje koel gematigd regenwoud aankomen. Je zult versteld staan van het verschil in landschap terwijl we een wandeling maken door de boomvarens en je vergapen aan de 'oude relikwieën': de Myrtle Beach-bomen die voor perfecte schaduw zorgen en stammen uit de tijd dat Australië deel uitmaakte van een supercontinent dat bekend staat als Gondwanaland. Adem de frisse lucht in voordat we een ontspannende rit maken naar de dramatische Shipwreck Coast!
Ook in het Nationaal Park zakken we af naar Loch Ard Gorge, de site van een van de bekendste scheepswrakken van Australië, hoor het dramatische verhaal van Tom en Eva en uitzicht op het strand. Hier vind je ook rotsformaties zoals Island Archway, Razorback en de ‘Salt and Pepper Shakers’.
Eenmaal uit de bomen en terug bij de Zuidelijke Oceaan komen we aan in Port Campbell National Park, de thuisbasis van de iconische 12 Apostelen. We zullen ongeveer 40 minuten doorbrengen bij de Apostelen, waar u kunt genieten van vrije tijd om vanuit elke hoek van het uitzicht te genieten, langs de promenades te wandelen en de perfecte foto's te maken van deze wilde en ruige kustlijn.
Na een volledige dag verkennen nemen we afscheid van de Great Ocean Road en keren terug landinwaarts om via landwegen terug te rijden naar Melbourne. We passeren landerijen op weg naar het plattelandsstadje Colac, hier kunt u een snelle hap eten voor het diner (op eigen kosten).
Terwijl we terugrollen naar je opstapplaats, leun je achterover, ontspan je en herbeleef je de magie van de dag – vol epische bezienswaardigheden, lachen en onvergetelijke momenten. We keren laat in de avond terug naar Melbourne, om ongeveer 20:00 uur.

The 12 Apostles was the highlight of the trip, although 30 minutes isn't really enough time to take in their beauty and surrounding areas. Bring enough snacks and water to sustain you through the long day. Lots of opportunities to stretch the legs throughout the day.

One of the most scenic and vibrant landscapes you can ever find will greet you and captivate your senses on this tour - which is a not to be missed for those planning a trip to Melbourne. Very professionally managed by Viator and very competent and knowledgeable guidance by Anthony. From Angelsea, Apollo Bay, right upto the 12 Apostles. In between the tour was mase more fascinating by walking through Rainforests and catching a glimpse of kangaroos/Koalas atop trees and rare bird sightings. It was thoroughly emjoyable along the entire scenic stretch.

I had an absolutely fantastic experience on this day tour! My cousin and I joined the tour not knowing exactly what to expect, but it ended up being one of the highlights of our trip. A big part of that was thanks to Joe, who was both our host and driver for the day. Joe was incredibly friendly, professional, and knowledgeable. From the moment we started, he made everyone feel welcome and comfortable. He shared interesting stories and local insights throughout the journey, which made every stop even more meaningful. Departed at 7.30am and returned at 8pm. Of the 12.5 hours, over 9 hours were spent on the coach. We had 30 minutes here, 15 minutes there, 20 mins for lunch (a sandwich and piece of fruit, but nothing to drink). The number of places crammed in was too much. It would be better to reduce the number so we could have spent a couple of hours at Apollo Bay and an hour or so at other places. Instead it was a long tedius coach ride, feeling like cattle being rushed from place to place and no time to enjoy anything. One little girl on our trip slept most of the day out of pure boredom. I felt very sorry for her. Never take a child on this trip, it was bad enough for us adults

A really enjoyable trip with an enthusiastic and helpful guide. The tour took us to a lot of places it would have been difficult to get to myself and, being in the tour bus, meant I could focus on enjoying the view rather than worrying about driving. Would recommend this tour. The sights we stopped off at were great.

I really enjoyed this trip. It’s a long day but our guide was very knowledgeable and was able to tell us lots about the different sites we saw along the coast. It was great to be able to see a bit more of the area.

As an American, we refer to LeBron James as the greatest athlete of all time (GOAT) in his respective field. Little did I know there was another goat James serving as a tour guide in Melbourne Australia! James was an amazing guide, very quippy, provided lots of relevant historical information in such a fun, easily understandable way and also seemed quite sensible and caring over the 30+ guests that he oversaw. The sightseeing was also spectacular, we spotted koalas, ate great food recommended by James (who is an ex-chef with great taste) and the other sights were stunningly beautiful. I’d highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Australia!

Yesterday I did the Great Ocean Road tour with tour guide James. The views we re excellent and my friends and I got a lot of good shots throughout the trip. The tour itself was very nice but James made it that much more enjoyable. The stories he told were relevant and interesting, and added good context for someone who has never been to Australia. I am glad we had James as our tour guide and hope that I can get a tour guide as entertaining and informative as him the next time I do a tour!
