Op de westelijke oever van de Chao Phraya-rivier ligt een deel van de stad genaamd Thonburi. Gelegen aan de rechterkant van de rivier is hier vooruitgang geboekt met weinig impact. Krijg een beetje gevoel voor het leven in Bangkok aan het begin van de 20e eeuw, toen het ook "Venetië van het Oosten" werd genoemd. Houten huizen, gebouwd op palen om de vloed van het late regenseizoen te doorstaan; plaatsen, alleen per boot bereikbaar; kinderen gebruiken de rivier als een grote speeltuin - het leven in Thonburi is sinds het begin niet veel veranderd.

We had a very enjoyable and informative morning tour. Our guide was very knowledgeable and we learned lots about this amazing city and country’s history. We started with an exhilarating long tail boat ride across the Chao Praya and its waterways. We stopped to feed the catfish, which was amazing. Our guide provided us with an interesting commentary on the sights that we saw. I would thoroughly recommend.
