Een van de populairste wandeltochten in Japan. Als pionier van dergelijke wandeltochten is het al sinds 2007 geliefd bij mensen en hebben sindsdien meer dan 100.000 gasten zich aangesloten. Gion is het meest traditionele district van Kyoto, waar de cultuur van Kagai, de wereld van Maiko-san en Geiko-san nog steeds leeft. Hoewel veel toeristen naar Gion komen, kan het moeilijk zijn om de omvang en schoonheid van Gion volledig te bevatten. Uw gids zal de geschiedenis van Kagai, het leven van Maiko-san en Geiko-san uitleggen en u zelfs meenemen naar de achterafstraatjes van Gion. Ga mee met een van de populairste wandeltochten die door goed opgeleide Engelssprekende gidsen in Japan worden uitgevoerd met ongeveer 5000 gasten per jaar. Je begint met het verkennen van de verborgen straat van de wijk Geisha tijdens de 2 uur durende tour. Maak een wandeling door de klassieke geplaveide straatjes naast de Shirakawa rivier, waarvan het landschap te zien was in de roman en film, "Memoirs of a Geisha." Terwijl je langs deze prachtige beek wandelt, zal de gids je ook de geschiedenis van geisha vertellen en je een gedetailleerde uitleg geven over hun kimono, kapsel, traditionele regels en hoe hun dagelijks leven is. Hoewel er geen garantie is, zullen gasten tijdens de wandeltocht vaak geisha tegenkomen die op straat lopen. Maak je klaar om alles te leren over de wereld van de maiko en geiko! Our guide Miya was excellent! She gave us a really insightful tour of Gion and educated us on Geiko’s and Maiko’s. She took us around the district and we actually caught both Geiko/Maiko’s leaving their boarding house to attend a tea party! This was a highlight of the tour!

While Gion was gorgeous, I’d choose a different tour. The guide was young and inexperienced. She gave incorrect information regarding geishas and was unaware of some traditions (for example, she thought shrine employees taped over a wish plaque because “it was something bad” but we learned at another shrine that some people believe keeping your wish hidden made it more likely to come true).

While our expert guides have more than 20 years of experience, we newly employed two young guides in their 20s and assigned them for the tour in this July after a strict training program. We could identify the guide in charge of your group thanks to your remarks saying “the guide was young” and “she” in your feedback. We take all feedback seriously, and we are currently reviewing the performance of the guide in question. Regarding the explanation given about the wish plaque (Ema) at the shrine, we appreciate your bringing this to our attention. We would like to clarify that recent reports have indicated that, in some cases, plaques are covered or hidden not because of the nature of the wishes, but rather due to concerns over personal information protection. However, we also recognize that different shrines may observe different traditions, and your interpretation about wishes being more powerful when kept secret is also a commonly held belief in Japan.
