We verlaten Belfast en rijden noordwaarts over de wereldberoemde Causeway Coastal Route - algemeen beschouwd als een van de mooiste kustplaatsen ter wereld. De weg omhelst de kustlijn met een spectaculair uitzicht op zee en zet de toon voor een dag langs de dramatische kust van Antrim.
Een pittoresk vissersdorpje en onze eerste stop van de dag, perfect voor een korte comfort break. Carnlough Harbour, gebouwd in de negentiende eeuw, heeft nog steeds een oude charme - zozeer zelfs dat het voorkwam in Game of Thrones, waar zijn stappen invielen voor de stad Braavos.

Je bezoekt het enige UNESCO-werelderfgoed in Noord-Ierland. Stop bij de Giant's Causeway en geniet ongeveer 1 uur van het verkennen van de 40.000 in elkaar grijpende zeshoekige stenen zuilen aan de oevers van de Atlantische Oceaan.
Een ontspannen lunchstop in het Causeway Hotel, direct naast de Giant's Causeway. Geniet in je eigen tempo van een hapje en een warm drankje voordat we verder gaan langs de kust. Lunch is op eigen kosten.
Old Bushmills Distillery: Bushmills Whiskey Distillery maakt al sinds 1608 prachtig ‘water des levens’ en is daarmee de oudste nog werkende distilleerderij in Ierland. Bezoek de proefruimte om te proeven.
Een fotostop bij de dramatische ruïnes van Dunluce Castle, gelegen aan de rand van de Atlantische Oceaan. Doordrenkt van geschiedenis en legende is dit middeleeuwse bolwerk een van de meest gefotografeerde kastelen in Ierland en een hoogtepunt van de Causeway Coast.
De Dark Hedges, een van de meest populaire natuurfenomenen in Noord-Ierland, werden gebruikt als decor voor de populaire tv-serie Game of Thrones. Het was de beroemde King's Road in seizoen 2. De hagen werden in de achttiende eeuw geplant door de familie Stuart. Het was bedoeld om indruk te maken op bezoekers die de ingang van hun huis, Gracehill House, naderden. Twee eeuwen later blijven de bomen een prachtig gezicht en staan ze bekend als de Dark Hedges.

I can't say enough good things about our experience with Murat and our private tour of Northern Ireland's Antrim Coast, Giants Causeway, Carrick-a-Rede Ropes Bridge, Dunluce Castle and The Dark Hedges. Murat picked us up from our hotel in Belfast and was a wonderful tour guide all along the way. We really liked the fact that we could customize the stops along the way, including fitting in a stop at The Royal Portrush Golf Club to do a little Christmas shopping for the golf fans in the family. First of all I would like to thank John, our guide, for showing us multiple beautiful sights of Northern Ireland. It was a rainy start to our magical day. John picked us up promptly at 8AM at our hotel in Ballymena. Our first stop was the stunning fishing village of Carnlough. Our quest was to photograph North Ireland. Interestingly the start of our tour was where a scene of Game of Thrones was filmed. Fisherman were busy harvesting their lobster traps. From there we went to Cranny Falls in Gleenariff, a gorgeous unexpected stop. The whole drive along the coast lived up to their billing of one of the 5 best drives in the world. Then it was off to the Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge and the Giant’s Causeway. I would recommend sturdy walking shoes as both destinations required a good hour of hiking from the cliffs to sea level and back again. Lunch was fish and chips in Bushmill followed by a taste testing of fine whiskey. Next was the Dunluce Castle and the finally the Dark Hedges, which was also used for filming Game of Thrones. John was charming and had brilliant stories throughout the day. I highly recommend using Belfast Tours NI for your customized excursion while in Northern Ireland!

We had a great day out with Murat. He picked up the 4 of us from our Airbnb and took us on the Antrim coastal route to the Giants Causeway. We stopped in a couple of small towns and viewing spots along the way. We saw dolphins swimming off the shore! The views were beautiful and Murat was a great guide, discussing history, nature, folklore, etc. Definitely recommend!

This was a magical day. Murat was the perfect guide. Knowledgeable about the area and very personable. Well worth the cost even though we ended up with only 3 of us. So much better than the large bus tours! We were able to choose our itinerary and how long we wanted to spend at each place.
