In deze ervaring leer je over de geschiedenis van het eerste gebied in Amerika dat vrij is van slavernij, San Basilio de Palenque, een Afro-Colombiaanse gemeenschap die, ondanks het verstrijken van de tijd – meer dan 400 jaar geschiedenis – nog steeds Afrikaanse wortels en gebruiken heeft, waardoor deze stad een historische site van wereldwijde betekenis is. Je leert over de lokale cultuur, gastronomie, muzikale optredens, traditionele geneeskunde en nog veel meer, begeleid door een lokale Expert die je alle informatie over Palenque zal geven, zodat je meer te weten kunt komen over onze geschiedenis, die ook jouw geschiedenis is, en het gevoel hebt dat je erbij hoort.

Deze ervaring begint met een pick-up van uw hotel. Onze Gids haalt u op (als uw hotel of adres niet op de lijst staat, laat het ons weten, we kunnen u overal in Cartagena ophalen) en geeft u alle details van onze ervaring. Na 1,5 uur rijden komen we aan in Palenque waar u wordt verwelkomd met een heerlijke salade van seizoensfruit uit de regio.
We gaan verder met het historische gesprek van Palenque, vanuit verschillende gezichtspunten, daar leren we over de strijd die Afrikanen in Amerika hadden om hun vrijheid te herwinnen en het proces van vorming van wat we nu Palenque noemen, vanaf het centrale plein beginnen we onze tour door de gemeenschap; de tour kan te voet of per voertuig worden gedaan volgens uw voorkeuren.

In het Palenquero House of Knowledge houden we de muziek- en danserspresentatie, waar we leren over de muzikale ritmes, traditionele dansen van Palenque en leren drummen
In het huis van Doña Rupe, met Ruperta leren we over de gastronomie van Palenque, en we zullen ook leren hoe we een van de voorouderlijke recepten van de gemeenschap kunnen bereiden.
Patio Sikito : In deze plaats, met lokale artsen (kruidenspecialist), zullen we leren over plantaardige geneeskunde, hoe ze geconfronteerd werden met de Covid-pandemie in Palenque, en het belang van voorouderlijke geneeskunde in het gezond houden van de gemeenschap tot op de dag van vandaag.
"Kid Pambele" Boksschool : Hier leren we over Antonio Cervantes Reyes, Colombia's eerste wereldkampioen boksen, en we zullen ook een leuke boksles hebben.
In het Masú Tejedor House Museum verkennen we een traditioneel huis dat is gebouwd met dezelfde technieken die onze voorouders gebruikten bij de creatie van Palenque, en we leren ook over de dagelijkse activiteiten die er plaatsvinden.

I can’t rant and rave enough about Victor our tour guide. He was so informed, we didn’t feel rushed. We got to cook, eat and dance with the people there. Everyone was so welcoming. I would do this tour again and again. 10 stars!
The tour of Palengue was rich in history and very engaging. If you are looking for a tour where you will be addressed with information, this is not the tour for you. On this tour you will be challenged with thought provoking questions, dancing, cooking, etc. This is a must do if you enjoy learning about the history of different cultures.
Victor and his family are amazing. I learned about Palenque from Victor. We had the opportunity to practice African dances, meet the candy lady and learned how she makes her tasty candy, we also met the medicine doctor who was full of knowledge on to take care of ourselves naturally. I appreciate Victor, his family, and the people of Palenque for allowing us to be immersed in their culture.

Words cannot describe how incredible my experience was during this tour. From beginning to end my guide victor was kind and informative. The ride was interactive and I learned so much. I’m grateful for his knowledge and connection to Palenque. He was very personable and seeing as his family resides there ; it made the trip all the more memorable. We were able to meet some family members who were very accommodating. The transportation was pristine and comfortable. The meal served was out of this world. I had so much fun and engaging in the community. I highly recommend (10/10) You will want to tip at the end because you will certainly be pleased.
Powerful learning opportunity. Was great to learn the history of one of the first free slaved established areas. Guides were extremely friendly and informative. Locals were very welcoming and food was great.
My sisters and I had an amazing experience on the Palenque tour with Victor and his family. From start to finish, their hospitality made us feel truly welcome. We loved learning about the history of the town, the traditional foods, natural medicines, and local culture. The dancing performed by the residents was a highlight, and Victor shared so much knowledge throughout the tour. He also took great photos for us, which made the experience even more memorable. The transportation was comfortable, with air conditioning on the bus, and everything was well organized. This was an authentic and unforgettable experience, and I would definitely recommend this tour with Victor and his family to anyone visiting the area.

Our tour guide Victor was amazing! I really enjoyed learning about the culture from the music show to the food and walking the streets connecting with locals and admiring the street murals. I highly recommend this tour if you identify as Black or of African descent. Everyone made me feel like I was right at home.
