My wife and I were pretty disappointed in this trip. The hike was alright and the views were pretty but we were not happy with the guides. When we booked this tour it said the max amount of people on the tour would be 16 but there were 27 total people. They put all 27 of us crammed on the back of a truck on benches and we were pretty squished on the way to and back. We stayed towards the back of the group and every time the guide would start talking about the landscape we would finally get close to hear and they would be done talking and then they would take off again so we didn’t learn anything new. There were also a few times that someone got hurt or left behind and other hikers noticed and stayed back with the person while the tour guides were far ahead. The lunch was also not good, and not very many people ate it. We stopped to eat about 4 miles into the hike and it was hot and humid outside. The lunch given to everyone was tuna sandwiches and they were really hot by that time. Multiple people said they put on their trip information that they were vegan but the tour guide still gave them tuna sandwiches. Didn’t think we got our money out of this tour compared to all of the other ones we had taken in the Galápagos.
The hike will be tough with the heat, but absolutely worth it! The views are incredible and we loved the information shared by our guide along the way. The guides do a good job of keeping space between groups while allowing more time to those who need it. Bring plenty of water and a couple snacks. We were lucky to have cloud cover most of the trail, but packed umbrellas in case we would need some shade. We liked that our group chose to eat our packed lunch after the tough inclined and before the mostly downhill return to close the tour.
Spectacular! Stunning hike to Sierra Negra crater and then on to volcano Chico. If you love a beautiful landscape then this hike is a must. Best trip so far in the Galapagos!
We absolutely had the best time on Isabela and Coral Blanco Tour Operator was a big reason! The staff, especially Ricardo, was super friendly and helpful. Months before the trip, he helped us book a hike on Sierra Negra and not only helped setup a tour on Isabela, but he also helped us organize tours on Santa Cruz and San Cristobal as well. Our tour guide, Natalie, was also super friendly and knowledgeable, providing us with wonderful facts and details about the ecology and geology of Sierra Negra. I can't recommend them enough. 10 stars!!
Hi Mark, thank you so much for such great review, we are very honored to have given you a great experience in the islands and most importantly you enjoyed, that is our mission, connect people to the Galapagos and truly gve them unforgettable experiences. I hope you can come back or recommend us to more people, thank you again.
The visit to the Sierra Negra Volcano far exceeded our expectations. We took this tour with our family of 6 during our stay on Isabella Island. We all enjoyed the hike and thought this tour was a highlight of our trip. We all enjoyed the views, the wildlife and learning more about the volcanic activity on the island. Our guide provided many helpful pieces of information and history as we hiked. The uniqueness of this landscape made this tour well worth doing. The hike was not hard and our whole family was able to complete the 10 miles easily. I'd highly recommend it!
Great tour and the guide Luis was brilliant. He was very knowledable a d it was like walking around in a David Attenborough documentary. He is clearly very passionate about the islands, the geology and the species found here. Loved it
Great challenging hike over unique volcanic landscape to a rewarding view at the end over the north of the island. Thumbs up to our guide Nadya. Karen and Aidan
Hi Karen and Aidan, thank you so much for your comment, we are very happy you enjoyed the hike, it is definitely worth it to visit and admire that incredible view.
Nathalie, our guide for the morning tour, was super nice. She shared a lot of her knowledge with us and answered all our questions. The tour is very nice and very impressive. We recommand it to everyone.
Hello Marie, we are so glad and happy your tour was amazing and you had a great time. Hoping the best and more adventures to you. Thank you for enjoying Galapagos with us =)
Your visit to the Galapagos is invariably filled with tours -- snorkeling, diving, highlands, lowlands, and more. The tour operators can start to blend together after awhile. But Coral Blanco and Natalie, our guide for the Sierra Negra volcano hike, stood out from the crowd. The logistics were quick and easy -- pick-up and drop-off directly from the hotel; double checking that you have enough water for the hike; a delicious and nutritious packed lunch to be eaten overlooking the caldera; and great pace and timing. Natalie has the perfect personality for a tour guide -- well-traveled both inside and outside the Galapagos, passionate and knowledgeable about volcanoes, and a generally upbeat attitude that helps combat the always-misty weather. A+ plan to visit again!
