Such an authentic, homely and fun experience - can not recommend enough if you're in Colombo!!!

Dinuka and his sister spent the entire day with us cooking delicious food and showing us the local market. The food they provided was organic and high quality, they were very patient with us cooking different dishes and there’s no doubt some of the best food we’ve had in Sri Lanka

We were picked up by Dinuka with his TukTuk on time from the hotel and driven to the wholesale market. Then there was a round about the market, all our questions about the exotic fruits and vegetables were answered superbly. Then we drove to his sister's house in a suburb where we cooked together. We prepared various curries, flatbreads and rice in traditional clay pots. Grating the coconuts on a stool with a built-in scraper was a particularly fun experience. All questions about culture and life were also clarified. Afterwards the food was also eaten by us - a treat! Communication ran through WhatsApp, prompt feedback, very good English. Friendly, warm dealings, you felt really comfortable. Everything went on time, the menu was varied, we fully relied on him, but there would certainly have been room for special requests. It was a special experience, which you can highly recommend if you want to get to know the people and food culture of Sri Lanka even more intensively.

I had an absolutely wonderful experience at this cooking class in Sri Lanka. Dinuka and his family were incredibly hospitable and welcoming from the moment we arrived. They made us feel completely at home and created such a warm, relaxed atmosphere that made the entire experience even more special. The class itself was fantastic. Everything was explained clearly, and it was so interesting to learn how to prepare authentic Sri Lankan dishes using traditional techniques and ingredients. As an Indian, I initially expected there to be many similarities in the cooking styles, and while there are some familiar elements, I was surprised by how many small nuances make Sri Lankan cooking unique—things like when ingredients such as onions are added, how spices are layered, and the little techniques that change the final flavour. Dinuka and his family were incredibly patient while explaining these details and answering all our questions. What really stood out was how accommodating and thoughtful they were throughout the entire experience. Beyond the cooking itself, Dinuka shared so many fascinating insights about Sri Lanka—its culture, buildings, politics, and everyday life. It felt less like a class and more like spending time with friends while learning about the country in a very genuine way. Overall, it was an amazing experience and one of the highlights of my time in Sri Lanka. I would highly recommend this class to anyone visiting and wanting a deeper understanding of Sri Lankan food and culture.

Wow – what an experience! If you’re looking to truly immerse yourself in Sri Lankan culture, you have to book this. Dinuka was a total gentleman from the moment we stepped into his tuk tuk. He looked after us so well and even picked us up and dropped us back to our accommodation — a 20km journey each way — which already showed how thoughtful and generous he is as a host. We started with a tour of the main market in Colombo (Pettah), where we got to see local street vendors in full action mode. It was fascinating and felt completely authentic. Next, we visited a spice shop where the owner gave us real insight into cinnamon production in Sri Lanka. There was zero pressure to buy anything, which made it feel genuine and educational rather than touristy. After that, we drove about 20 minutes to Dinuka’s beautiful family home. All the ingredients had been bought in advance, but because of the market tour earlier, we already recognised most of the herbs and spices laid out for us. What I loved most was the passion from the hosts. Everything was made from scratch using locally sourced, high-quality ingredients — even the coconut milk was freshly made for the curries. You could really feel the pride and care that went into every step. And the food… exquisite. So flavourful, so fresh, and honestly some of the best Sri Lankan food I’ve had. Value: Amazing value for money. It won’t be long before this becomes the most popular food tour in Colombo — book it while you can!
