Meteora is vernoemd naar St. Athanasios de Meteoriteit, eigenaar van de Grote Meteoroukerk. Sinds 1988 hebben de kloosters van Meteora een positie in de wereldwijde erfgoedmonumentencatalogus van UNESCO. Gebouwd op de top van de rotsen, in een hoogte die de 400 meter bereikt, wordt Meteora beschouwd als een van de grootste creaties van de natuur, en een van de belangrijkste monumenten van de orthodoxie. Vandaag worden slechts 7 van de historische kloosters gebruikt, waarvan er 6 open zijn voor het publiek, die zijn: • Het Anapausa-klooster • Het Rusanu-klooster • Het klooster "Big Meteoro" • Het Varlaam-klooster • Het Agia Triada-klooster • Het Agios Stefanos-klooster

We halen je om 07.30 uur op bij je hotel in Chalkidiki en volgen de weg naar Meteora, die ongeveer 3,5-4 uur duurt voordat we daar aankomen. Als je wilt kunnen we een korte stop maken in de stad Trikala, voor een koffiepauze naast de rivier de Litheos, en daarna beginnen we de kloosters van Meteora te bezoeken. Deze prachtige tour wordt voltooid in de pittoreske dorpjes Kalambaka of Kastraki, waar u optioneel een traditionele Griekse lunch kunt krijgen! Daarna zullen we terugkeren op Chalkidiki. De duur van deze tours is ongeveer 10-12 uur aangezien Meteora ongeveer 350 kilometer verwijderd is van Halkidiki. (Afhankelijk van het dorp)

- De kloosters hebben een strikt kledingvoorschrift: mannen moeten broeken en lange mouwen dragen, vrouwen moeten een lange rok dragen. Als je in korte broeken opduikt, worden er broeken en rokken meegeleverd.

A full-day trip, totally worth it. Meteora is breathtaking. Dimitri is an excellent driver, very punctual and correct, friendly and kind, but also a well informed and resourceful guide. We chatted in English. The car was perfectly clean and comfortable. It was a real pleasure. We are glad we did this, and we would definitely recommend it.
Dimitris is a great person to spend time with, very kind and knowledgeble person. The car was extremely comfortable and an unexpected bonus, we were treated with some fruits :) Definitely reccomend this to everyone, especially in company with Dimitris. We have visited 3 monastaries and had an amazing lunch in the restaurant nearby.
Dimitrios was the perfect guide - looked after us all day. Got us to all of the four monasteries we wanted to go to. Magical experience!

Absolutely awesome trip! Experience of the lifetime and we will go back there. Perfect weather and even rain didn’t make it worse but better as it was needed after visiting monasteries. Whole trip was possible thanks to professional and very nice driver Dimitris. Dimitris knew where to go. Knew how to get there and waited for us in perfect car and all Covid needed equipment. He made this trip superb in every detail. Great driving skills not only during dry but especially during waterfall from heaven on the way back! Meteora Monastery it’s most beautiful place I’ve ever been to and will be back for more..view from there it’s too awesome to capture by any camera. Made my holidays worth every penny! My husband and I had an excellent trip to Meteora with Prime Taxi! Our driver Dimitri was professional, friendly and had great local knowledge. He made sure our journey was as comfortable as possible and provided us with hand wipes, water, wine and fruit! He really went above and beyond. The drive to Meteora and back was long, but Dimitri made sure it was fun and showed us many beautiful landscapes along the way. Please note that this tour only includes a car & driver, not a tour guide. If you want a tour of the monasteries, you’ll have to organise these separately. I would 100% recommend the private tours with Prime Taxi.
