Verken de majestueuze tempels van Angkor, die 600 jaar (802-1432) Khmer-beschaving vertegenwoordigen, een van de grootste koninkrijken van Azië. Vertrek om 8.00 uur per tuk-tuk vanuit je hotel en breng de dag door met het ontdekken van deze ontzagwekkende tempels, met als hoogtepunt een bezoek aan de Bakheng- of Pre Rup-tempel bij zonsondergang.

Na het ontbijt vergezeld door uw gids zullen we een onaangetast dorp in de buurt van de stad Angkor Thom benaderen met de tuk-tuk (gemotoriseerde trolley) en meer te weten komen over het dagelijkse leven van de lokale bevolking. Vervolg uw reis op loopafstand (dit duurt ongeveer 1 uur met ongeveer 3 km over vlakke grond) biedt u de perfecte gelegenheid om 'off the beaten track' te gaan en een beter begrip te krijgen van het Cambodjaanse lokale leven, samen met een inzicht in de traditionele Khmer cultuur.
Ga verder door naar het noorden in de richting van Angkor Thom. Deze majestueuze site diende ooit als de glinsterende hoofdstad van het Khmer-rijk. Neem even de tijd om de grootsheid ervan te overwegen voordat u zich binnen de stad waagt. Aangekomen bij de tempel van Bayon, waarderen de prachtig vormgegeven centrale torens bedekt met meer dan 200 enorme gezichten.
Ga naar Ta Prohm - een tempel in het midden van de jungle. Wandel door de doolhofachtige ruïnes van deze sierlijke aanbiddingssite en verwonder je over de vijgenbomen die het gebouw dreigen in te nemen. Na uw lunch (op eigen kosten) genoten te hebben en uit te rusten in het Khmer-lokaal restaurant vlak bij de tempel.
Vervolg na de lunch naar Angkor Wat vanuit de weinig bezochte oostkant, 's werelds grootste heilige gebouw en een architectonisch meesterwerk. Gebouwd in de 12e eeuw heeft de tempel 30 jaar geduurd om te bouwen en vertegenwoordigt de Khmer-beschaving op zijn grootst. Keer terug naar uw hotel na een lange maar bevredigende dag, die u een leven lang herinneringen zal laten aan een van de wonderen van de wereld.

The tour guide and driver (both called Samnang/Lucky) truly made the experience for us. I was alone but in a group of 11 on the day, they were both welcoming and it was easy to start chatting to the others. Our tour guide Samnang is very knowledgeable and took time explaining everything to us. Thanks to him I felt truly immersed in the City of Temples and he also took some great photos of us. The Sunset mini hike (10-15 mins) and view from the top was a lovely relaxing end to the day and definitely worth it. Throughout the day they had plenty of chilled water and also cold towels for us, all at no extra cost. I would absolutely recommend Journey Cambodia and especially the two Samnangs!

The Angkor Wat was perfect. And the reason I say this is the excellent guide Sak who explained to us in perfect English everything about the great temple. I personally thank him as well as the driver who returned me to the hotel in the middle of the excursion free of charge, because I felt unwell due to the heat. I definitely recommend it !!!
