Vertrek op een fascinerende excursie in de Toscaanse heuvels en bezoek de historische steden Siena en San Gimignano. We halen je op bij je hotel of appartement in Rome. De tour begint met een verkenning van Siena, het prachtige Piazza del Campo en de majestueuze Duomo. Bewonder de middeleeuwse architectuur en dompel je onder in de geschiedenis en cultuur van deze prachtige stad. De tour gaat verder naar San Gimignano, bekend als het 'Manhattan van de Middeleeuwen' vanwege de imposante torens. Wandel door de geplaveide straten en geniet van het panoramische uitzicht op de omliggende heuvels. Na wat vrije tijd in San Gimignano gaan we naar een betoverend wijndomein op het platteland waar je de kans krijgt om deel te nemen aan een proeverij van lokale wijnen vergezeld van typische producten, te genieten van de heerlijke Toscaanse wijnen en de geheimen van hun productie te ontdekken. De terugkeer naar Rome staat gepland voor de middag.

Siena, gelegen in het hart van Toscane, is een middeleeuwse stad die beroemd is om zijn schoonheid en historisch erfgoed. Het historische centrum van Siena, dat op de Werelderfgoedlijst van UNESCO staat, wordt gekenmerkt door smalle, kronkelige straatjes, historische paleizen en charmante pleinen. Het Piazza del Campo is het middelpunt van het stadsleven en hier wordt twee keer per jaar de beroemde Palio gehouden, een paardenrace. De kathedraal van Siena, met zijn buitengewone zwart-wit marmeren gevel, is een meesterwerk van de Italiaanse gotische architectuur. Binnen kunnen bezoekers kunstwerken bewonderen van beroemde kunstenaars als Donatello, Michelangelo en Pinturicchio. Siena staat ook bekend om zijn traditionele Toscaanse keuken en heerlijke wijnen, zoals Chianti en Brunello di Montalcino.
San Gimignano, gelegen in het hart van Toscane, is beroemd om zijn vele middeleeuwse torens, die het de bijnaam 'Manhattan van de Middeleeuwen' hebben opgeleverd. Initially, we were unaware that the wine tour was actually a wine tasting. We had thought we were visiting a winery to learn about the process of winemaking, not tasting 8 different wines with a light lunch. We already know how to drink wine😊Somewhat disappointed about that. Especially with the long drive to and from. We would have like more time visiting the town Siena vs, unstructured time in churches.
Exceeded expectations all around. Having a small group tour in a private van was absolutely worth paying a little more as opposed to large group tour and dealing with lots of people on a big bus. Being picked up and dropped off at hotel was also very nice not having to figure out transportation. We had our own tour guide and a driver. Tours of the city and cathedrals was educational and Dina was very knowledgeable about many different things. She was able to pivot between history, religion, and architecture intelligently. Had a little time to do some shopping in both places. The winery and staff were excellent. The wine was plenty, a great 3 course meal. The staff had us laughing off our chairs. The purchase options with discounts were good. Balsamic, several olive oils, and a few wines not sold in stores. Overall a great day spent in the Tuscany region. Highly recommended.
