De site ligt in de zuidelijke regio Basilicata en bestaat uit de oude agglomeratie van de stad Matera en het Park van de Rotskerken die ontstaan in de natuurlijke holtes van de Murge. Met een oppervlakte van 1.016 hectare omvat deze buitengewone holbewonersnederzetting, die vandaag de dag nog steeds intact is, meer dan duizend woningen en een opmerkelijk aantal commerciële activiteiten en winkels. Na de rondleiding heeft u wat vrije tijd om te winkelen voordat u vertrekt.
De trulli van Alberobello in Puglia zijn beroemd over de hele wereld en staan sinds 1996 op de Werelderfgoedlijst van UNESCO. Hun charme is verbonden met een mysterieuze oorsprong, een esoterische symboliek en een ongelooflijk actuele eco-duurzame architectuur. Na de anderhalf uur durende rondleiding heb je anderhalf uur de tijd om te lunchen voordat je naar Matera vertrekt.

It is a fascinating but long day. In Matera our group size was too large. Without a Vox system it was difficult to hear. The second tour was half the size and more manageable.
Not as advertised - the operator isn’t the guide. Each city they connect you w a guide. In Matera, I had to leave the tour early to make my way back to the group meeting place (w no time for bathroom break or lunch). The guide seems to have no idea what time the 3 of us on her tour had to be back. In the second stop w waited 1/2 hr or more for the guide. On the return the bus stopped in two other cities (not directly on the way) to drop people off. I’d recommend booking with an operator who is also the guide. That said, tours were good and the cities lovely, but for the money I’d expect a different experience.
Great experience, but the ideal would be to see each place on different days. So the enjoyment would be better because it would not be so tired.
The tours were terrific. We took both tours on the same day and it was a full but extremely interesting day. These two tours complimented each other because they were totally different but had many things about them that chronologically made sense. What a wonderful, exciting, interesting day! Both tour guides and our driver were excellent. Tours and transportation was right on time for every stop.
Matera history and tour guide gave a great amount of history. Also suggested books to read about the area. Trulli tour was excellent. 5 star!
