Het is een perfecte tour om de essentie van Boston te zien. We duiken in de fascinerende geschiedenis van de oprichting van Boston. Je ontdekt de 16 iconische locaties van de Freedom Trail en leert onder andere over de rol van Boston in de Amerikaanse Revolutie. Bovendien hoor je interessante feiten over de constructie van de stad, de architectuur, opmerkelijke figuren, de afschaffing, het Amerikaanse onderwijs, immigratie en zelfs het hedendaagse dagelijkse leven. Onderweg zie je moderne sculpturen uit Boston, waaronder 'The Embrace', een recent beeldhouwwerk, en het aangrijpende Holocaust Memorial en vele anderen. Aan het einde van de tour heb je een grondig inzicht in het centrum van Boston, vaak omschreven als een openluchtmuseum, en vertrek je met onvergetelijke herinneringen en fantastische foto's. Leer onverwachte feiten over het oudste openbare park in de Verenigde Staten (1634). Het park maakt deel uit van de Emerald Necklace – dit groene lint bestaat uit 6 parken. We stoppen bij Telegraph Hill – de historische heuvel die verband houdt met de stichting van de stad. Het park is getuige geweest van grote momenten in de Amerikaanse geschiedenis. Het is de thuisbasis van verschillende monumenten, zoals het Boston Massacre Memorial, de Great Elm Tree en het Soldiers and Sailors Monument. Dit is waar de beroemde Freedom Trail van Boston begint.

Het is een waar architectonisch juweeltje. Dit gebouw met gouden koepels, in federale stijl, gebouwd aan het einde van de 18e eeuw door de Amerikaanse architect Bullfinch, domineert Beacon Hill.
Oud stadhuis 1865, een prachtig gebouw in Franse Tweede Empire-stijl (Napoleon III-stijl, zoals de Garnier Opera in Parijs). Het oude stadhuis van Boston was van 1865 tot 1969 gastheer van de gemeenteraad.
Old Corner Bookstore, gebouwd in 1718, is de Old Corner Bookstore gevestigd in het oudste commerciële gebouw in het centrum van Boston. Deze 19e-eeuwse uitgeverij publiceerde meerdere beroemde Amerikaanse klassiekers.
Deze voormalige puriteinse kerk, gebouwd in 1729, was bijna drie eeuwen lang een ontmoetingsplaats.
Old State House, 1713, omgeven door moderne gebouwen, lijkt bevroren in de tijd. Op 18 juli 1776 werd vanaf dit balkon de tekst van de Amerikaanse Onafhankelijkheidsverklaring voorgelezen.
Het was voor dit openbare gebouw dat een squadron van het Britse leger in 1770 het vuur opende en vijf Bostonians doodde. Dit incident werd de Boston Massacre genoemd.
1741: The Cradle of Liberty, een prachtig historisch gebouw met een gouden windwijzer in de vorm van een enorme sprinkhaan. Deze sprinkhaan werd het eerste en bekendste symbool van Boston.
Quincy Market, 1824, een voormalige markt, tegenwoordig een Food Court, een steegje vol kraampjes en winkels, een waar architectonisch juweeltje.
Oudste restaurant in de Verenigde Staten (1826) gevestigd in een historisch gebouw (1704). De toekomstige koning van Frankrijk, Louis-Philippe, woonde in dit huis in een bescheiden appartement op de tweede verdieping.
Achter het Bostonian hotel liggen verschillende oude voetgangersstraten. Blackstone-blok staat op de nationale lijst van historische plaatsen.
North End, letterlijk het noordelijke district, is een van de oudste wijken van Boston.
Het Paul Revere House, 1676 – een van de laatste overblijfselen van het koloniale tijdperk. De beroemde revolutionair woonde daar van de jaren 1780 tot 1800.

De eerste kerk in North End werd in 1650 op deze plek gebouwd. Gedurende de koloniale periode was het de meest invloedrijke kerk in het noordoosten en een bolwerk van het puriteinse geloof.
Copp's Hill, gebouwd in 1632, is het hoogste punt in North End in Boston. Op de top van deze heuvel ligt een oude begraafplaats uit 1659. Vanaf Copp's Hill Terrace kunt u een prachtig panorama over de Charles River bewonderen, evenals de Bunker Hill Obelisk en de USS Constitution aan de overkant.
This guided tour was great… Maria walked us along Boston's Freedom Trail with a small group of French people, all equipped with earpieces allowing us to follow her even from a distance while listening to all her commentary on the different sites, but especially on the entire history of Boston. A beautiful 2.5-hour walk through this beautiful city at a pleasant pace to enjoy the sites. Do not hesitate if you wish to discover Boston along this path crossing the city…

It is a real comfort to be able to grasp everything in nuances, ask questions and exchange freely. Maria knows Boston at her fingertips and knows how to interest everyone. I myself was with high school students, they learned a lot and appreciated Maria’s informed comments. An incredible walk along the path to freedom and through the picturesque neighborhoods of Beacon Hill and Back Bay.
