Franse Bakken Klasse in een lokale Montmartre Bakkerij

Beschrijving

It was a great experience for my teens and one of the only classes excepting their age group. The bake goods were delicious and the instructor was very knowledgeable. I also liked that it was a small group class.
We're so glad to hear your teens had a great experience! It's wonderful to know you enjoyed the small group setting, the delicious baked goods, and your instructor's knowledge. Thank you for taking the time to share your kind feedback. We're delighted your family enjoyed the class!
The bakery itself was a good boulangerie; however, my main issue was with the instructor and the structure of the class. This was not a hands-on baking class so much as a demonstration accompanied by lengthy lectures. I enrolled expecting to actively participate throughout the experience, but instead we spent a significant amount of time listening to explanations of basic bread science, including what levain is and how a starter works. While that information may be useful for complete beginners, dedicating roughly 30 minutes to it—along with being quizzed—felt excessive. During the baking portion, participants mostly took turns performing very simple tasks rather than everyone being actively involved. My second concern was the instructor himself. He appeared to be American, yet presented himself as an authority on French baking while frequently speaking down to the Australians and Americans in the group. Much of the commentary centered on how little we supposedly know about bread or food compared to France. I certainly appreciate that France has an exceptional baking tradition, but I signed up to learn how to bake—not to be lectured about the shortcomings of the food in my home country or hear an extended explanation of how the bakery operates. It was also surprising to learn that the instructor is not actually a professional baker by trade. The dough we worked with had already been prepared by the bakery’s head baker, and the instructor’s own baguette shaping did not inspire much confidence. Overall, the experience felt more like a lecture than a genuine baking class. I left disappointed and would recommend choosing a class taught by a trained baker or pastry professional with a greater emphasis on hands-on instruction. In my opinion, this experience did not justify the cost and fell short of the expectations set by its description.
Dear Michael, Thank you for taking the time to share your detailed feedback. We truly appreciate it, as it helps us continue improving our experiences. As stated in our listing, our instructors are baking experts rather than professional bakers and are trained to provide both technical knowledge and historical context. The bread dough is prepared in advance because it requires approximately 36 hours of resting before it is ready to shape and bake. The class is designed as an introduction to the three pillars of French baking: bread, viennoiseries, and pastries. Within a 90-minute session, giving guests the knowledge and recipes to recreate them at home. We appreciate your comments.
Booked this class to do while my friends were elsewhere and it was the best decision! Temi was absolutely lovely to chat to about both boulangerie and non-boulangerie things and gave a brilliant overview of the history behind the baguette, financiers and viennoiserie. She was a great teacher with each! Bonus, I now have plenty of goodies and the recipes to bring a bit of France home😊
We're pleased to hear you had such a wonderful experience with Temmy! It's fantastic to know she made the class both fun and informative, and that you enjoyed learning the history behind the pastries while creating delicious treats to take home. We'll be sure to share your kind words with Temmy. Thank you for your lovely feedback!

Had a great time with mum at the bakery. David was a great instructor and helped us make lovely financiers and baguettes that we later had at home. We forgot to take a photo of the financiers recipe, is it possible to get it somehow? We came back from Paris with baking trays just for that.
