Reisroute

The only one of 48 such forts built before WW1 which still has its cannon in their original casements. Interesting in its own right it was made extra special by the guide Maria Vittoria who was very welcoming and enthusiastic about showing people the fort.
Fort very well preserved. Interesting and exciting visit thanks to the talented guide Maria Vittoria very competent and passionate about what she does. In the upper part where there are cannons spectacular view of the lake and surroundings
Interesting guided tour of the Montecchio Fort lasting about an hour. Historic site with a beautiful view. Congratulations to our guide who caught our attention x all the time.
Certainly the best preserved fort of the First World War in the world. The tours are led by very prepared guys
The site is a simple military barracks equipped with cannons dating back to the First World War, but takes on significant traits thanks to the skill of the guide Max who with competence and passion showed us and described the various environments. Thanks to his measured and engaging words the past comes to life. You project yourself back in time and you have the impression of walking through the halls of the fortress of the “Tatar Desert” of Buzzati.
We were lucky enough to visit the Fort of Montecchio Nord in Colico and we can say without a doubt that it was a unique experience! It is a true historical jewel, the only fort of the First World War still intact in Italy, and walking through its perfectly preserved corridors was like stepping back in time. The guided tour was the real added value: our guide, Luca, with his passion and enthusiasm, transported us into history like a real time machine! Thanks to his detailed stories, we discovered many anecdotes and curiosities that made the tour even more engaging. The centerpiece? The giant original cannons, still pointed at Lake Como, which left us speechless. The view from the top of the fort is spectacular, with incredible views of the mountains and lake waters. If you are passionate about history or just want to have a different experience, the Forte di Montecchio Nord is a must! Recommended Simo! Beatrice and Stefano - BeSt Beatrice and Stefano's Travels
Place entirely original and complete largely in all its equipment and equipment, which is absolutely exceptional given the nature and era of the structure. Electrical panels, ventilation systems, cannons, pumps, wiring... There is almost everything and everything perfectly original. The Guide although young was very knowledgeable and, strangely, could boast excellent English pronunciation. The only observation I would make concerns the permission given to visitors, especially children, to climb on the armored domes: probably indestructible because of 15cm thick cast iron, the same cannot be said for the thin sheets that cover the edge and the junction of the fire mouth that in fact are quite bent by the weight of the people who have climbed over the years. Damage absolutely avoidable. It would also be good to restore some damaged parts of the structure, such as some broken and dismantled windows and doors from their seats (the shed in the lawn) and make usable the closed but interesting rooms such as the workshop north of the casemate, the battery room adjacent to the generators etc. And fix the slabs of the parking lot in front of the entrance, which should not require extensive intervention yet they are in pitiful condition probably for a long time. In short, fantastic structure but a little neglected.
Nice place full of history, the guide was very good, professional and extremely helpful. Strategic place in its context enjoys a beautiful view of the lake and the surrounding mountains.
Bit of a walk up the hill but nice to see. Lots of wildlife on the road to the top. Guided tour available if you want to see more
I came from Portugal on purpose to see this fortification from the Great War. What a wonderful tour guided by "Max"! Well Hajam! Continue to promote the value of the historical-military heritage and the beauty of your region Como | Colic😀
