Verken prachtige kustlijnen, wilde geschiedenis en fascinerende wilde dieren met deze zelfstandige wandeltocht door Key West. Maak kennis met de beroemde auteur Ernest Hemingway en de invloed van het eiland op zijn werk. Luister naar verhalen over piraten, scheepswrakken en rampen en bewonder de weelderige tropische tuinen en kustlijn. Wandel vervolgens door Duval Street, het bruisende hart van Key West, en geniet van de rijke cultuur van dit unieke eiland. Zie je die grote rode boei rechtdoor? Het is moeilijk te missen, want het is het laatste wat je voor de oceaan ziet. Dit markeert het zuidelijkste punt in de continentale Verenigde Staten! Nou, een soort van. Ik zal het uitleggen. OPMERKING : De tour is meer dan 100 + mijl lang, met meer dan 70 + audio verhalen, en duurt ongeveer 2 - 3 uur te voltooien. Nieuw, Levenslang toegang, geen vervaldatum. Gebruik het altijd, op elke reis, zo vaak als je wilt.
Het historische Cedar House komt aan onze rechterkant. Het is behoorlijk moeilijk te missen, gezien de naam! Waarom noemen ze het het Cedar House? Kijk eens naar het huis en het hek eromheen. Dat klopt, ze zijn allebei gemaakt van cederhout. Dit is een van de weinige huizen in Key West die volledig van cederhout is gemaakt.
Verderop aan de linkerkant zien we de beroemde Kapokboom. Het is de grote met brede takken die recht uit de stam komen. Kapokbomen zijn enkele van de grootste bloeiende bomen ter wereld en bereiken een hoogte van meer dan 60 meter hoog. Ze worden aangetroffen in warme tropische klimaten en worden door veel culturen als heilig beschouwd.
Het kruispunt verderop markeert het begin van US Highway One. Mijlpaal nul staat iets verderop aan onze linkerkant. We naderen vanaf de achterkant van het bord, dus zorg ervoor dat je naar voren loopt om het beter te kunnen zien.
Als u een korte omweg wilt maken naar een piratenattractie, slaat u rechtsaf Caroline Street in. Deze brengt je naar het huis van Captain George Carey, de thuisbasis van de Pirates Well. De put ligt vlak voor het huis.
Aan onze rechterkant staat het Kapitein George Carey House! Heb je ooit gehoord van het “Wrak van de Duitse Bruiden?” Het is echt! In de 19e eeuw verging hier vlakbij een schip en overleefden vijf Duitse vrouwen. Ze waren allemaal vrijgezel en uiteindelijk trouwden ze allemaal met een man uit Key West!
Kijk eens naar links. Zie je het bord voor Truman's "Little" Whitehouse? Het is een korte wandeling vanaf hier, dus als u het wilt bekijken, kunt u de borden volgen. Maar als je dat niet doet, blijf dan gewoon door Whitehead Street lopen terwijl ik je er wat over vertel.
Aan onze rechterkant staat het Audubon House en de omliggende tropische tuinen. Je kunt het niet missen! Dit gebouw, gebouwd in 1849, was vroeger het huis van kapitein John Geiger, een van de rijkste mannen van Key West.
We naderen Greene Street, de thuisbasis van een heel bijzonder herkenningspunt in Key West: Captain Tony's Saloon! Op de barkrukken in dit etablissement staan de namen van beroemdheden die er zijn langsgeweest voor een drankje. Wil je drinken in dezelfde bar waar Robert DeNiro, Eric Clapton, Bob Dylan en Clint Eastwood ooit een paar teruggooiden? Dit is jouw plek.
Aan onze linkerkant staat de nieuwe locatie van Sloppy Joe’s. Tijd om de geschiedenis voor eens en voor altijd recht te zetten. Zoals ik al zei, dit is niet de originele Sloppy Joe’s. Maar wist u dat dit ook niet Kapitein Tony’s Saloon was? Dus waar was het origineel?
Geloof het of niet, dat witte huis met de veranda aan onze rechterkant is het oudste huis op het eiland! Het werd gebouwd in 1829 en was de thuisbasis van de prominente scheepswraker, kapitein Fracis Watlington, die daar woonde met zijn vrouw en negen dochters. Ja, je hoort het goed: Negen!
Zie je de grote witte kerk aan onze linkerkant? Dat is de St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, een van de mooiste gebouwen in de omgeving. Je zou het niet weten als je kijkt, maar de kerk heeft door de jaren heen een groot aantal tragedies en rampen meegemaakt.
Herinner je je de brand van 1886 nog? Het witte gebouw met drie bogen aan onze rechterkant is het San Carlos Instituut, en daar begon de brand! Tegenwoordig is het een museum, bibliotheek, theater en school. Oh, en een kunstgalerie. Het wordt ook erkend als een van de mooiste bezienswaardigheden van Florida.
Even verderop aan onze rechterkant staat het Vlinder- en Natuurconservatorium. Hier kun je meer dan 50 vlindersoorten van over de hele wereld zien, evenals tuinen vol met bloeiende planten, exotische vogels en watervallen. Een soort paradijs in het paradijs.

Great low cost tour of some of the most famous places in key West. Technology worked pretty well, and was easily able to select locations out of sequence on a moving map as we wandered around town. Lots of good "inside Key West" trivia included as well.

Great information and very easy to use. You could start and end at any point which was great because the best parking in a crowded area was halfway through the trip. As soon as we got out of the car and called up the app, the narration began with directions to the route. Loved the ability to stop and go into a museum or other attraction, get a drink and then resume your walk. Do go into the Butterfly Conservatory. Best attraction in the Keys

We did the stops going backward due to our location. That threw off some of the narrative stuff going in reverse order. You can start anywhere, but I recommend going to the stops in ascending order.

This was an easy walk, up and back the two main streets in the old downtown Key West. Good history talks, this takes an hour or four, depending on photo and shopping stops…

Inexpensive. Easy self guided tour that takes you from Duval Street down to the Southern most tip in Key West. You can stop and pause when you need to, and also relisten to it later! Wonderful facts as you walk. Clear voice that's easy to listen to on your own device.

The guided tour of down town Key West was great. Due to some time constraints and where we were parked, we had to do the tour backwards. It would have been better to do the normal way as some information at later stops builds on earlier ones. However, the app worked really well and the information was interesting and fun. Definitely worth it!

We were very pleased, The positives: 1) Price is great $9.99 2) interesting information, And good length, each stop has around 1.5 minutes of info. Also Voice is easy to understand. 3) you can advance each stop on your own or it will go to the next stop based on your walking and gps. 4) begin tour whenever you want, no meeting time 5) you don’t have to steer at #1 stop, we began the tour midway since tattoo was near our ship. Small negative: It takes a few minutes and a little confusing to set up and get going. Not bad, but not just as simple as hit the reservation link. We will definitely use them again in other cities.
