De doopkapel van Sint-Jan in Pisa (Italiaans: Battistero di San Giovanni) is een rooms-katholiek kerkelijk gebouw in Pisa, Italië. De bouw begon in 1152 ter vervanging van een oudere doopkapel, en toen het in 1363 voltooid was, werd het het tweede gebouw, in chronologische volgorde, op de Piazza dei Miracoli. De vorm van het gebouw, het gebruikte materiaal, de verdeling van de binnenruimtes door de kolommen en de ruimte tussen de twee koepels zorgen ervoor dat het Baptisterium een ongelooflijk effect van akoestische resonantie creëert, beter bekend als Echo. Het geluid verspreidt zich door de ruimte, als een continue golf, en stijgt in tonaliteit tot het punt dat het de aanwezigheid van een engelenkoor suggereert. Ieder half uur voert de staf van het Baptisterium een kleine demonstratie uit voor toeristen: het effect is niet te missen.
Kathedraal van Pisa is een middeleeuwse rooms-katholieke kathedraal gewijd aan de Hemelvaart van de Maagd Maria, op de Piazza dei Miracoli in Pisa, Italië. Het is een opmerkelijk voorbeeld van Romaanse architectuur, met name de stijl die bekend staat als de Pisaanse romaanse stijl
Bewonder de beroemdste klokkentoren ter wereld van buitenaf, de scheve toren van Pisa, wereldwijd bekend om zijn helling van bijna vier graden, het resultaat van een onstabiele fundering. De toren bevindt zich achter de kathedraal van Pisa en is het derde oudste bouwwerk op het Kathedraalplein van de stad (Piazza del Duomo), na de kathedraal en de doopkapel van Pisa.
Het bezoek omvat de Galleria dell'Accademy, waar binnen de David staat, het beroemde beeldhouwwerk van Michelangelo. De David van Michelangelo in de ‘Accademia’ naast het werk van David zijn er ook andere sculpturen en een grote collectie schilderijen van Florentijnse kunstenaars.
De kathedraal van Santa Maria del Fiore (bezoek van buitenaf), met zijn prachtige koepel geprojecteerd door Brunelleschi, is de kathedraal van Florence. De bouw begon in 1296, in gotische stijl naar een ontwerp van Arnolfo di Cambio en werd structureel voltooid in 1436, met de koepel ontworpen door Filippo Brunelleschi. De buitenkant van de basiliek is bekleed met polychrome marmeren panelen in verschillende tinten groen en roze, omzoomd door wit, en heeft een uitgebreide 19e-eeuwse neogotische façade van Emilio De Fabris.
Het Baptisterium van San Giovanni staat voor de kathedraal en is het oude religieuze en burgerlijke centrum van de stad, evenals een meesterwerk van de Italiaanse Romaanse. Het is een van de oudste gebouwen in de stad: het dateert waarschijnlijk uit de 5e eeuw, en kreeg zijn huidige uiterlijk in de 11e-12e eeuw. De achthoekige plattegrond is aan de buitenkant bekleed met wit en groen Prato marmer met geometrische motieven en heeft een achtdelig dak; de decoratie werd in de 16e eeuw verrijkt met beelden en bas-reliëfs. De drie vergulde bronzen deuren zijn het werk van Andrea Pisano (zuiddeur, gebouwd rond 1330), en Lorenzo Ghiberti (noord, 1402/25 en oost, 1425/52). De oostelijke deur, met verhalen uit het Oude Testament, opent naar de kathedraal en werd door Michelangelo gedefinieerd als de Poorten van het Paradijs; alle deuren zijn kopieën, de originelen worden bewaard in het Museo dell'Opera del Duomo.
Grenzend aan de kathedraal van Santa Maria del Fiore staat de klokkentoren ontworpen door Giotto (bezoek buiten). De klokkentoren van Giotto is de majestueuze klokkentoren van de kathedraal en een van de meesterwerken van de Italiaanse gotiek. De klokkentoren heeft een vierkante basis van ongeveer 15 meter per zijde met hoekversterkingen die oplopen tot aan de horizontale vrijdragende kroon op een hoogte van 84,7 meter.
Piazza della Signoria vormt sinds de 14e eeuw het centrum van het politieke leven van Florence. Op het plein hebben belangrijke historische gebeurtenissen plaatsgevonden en hebben grote triomfen plaatsgevonden, zoals de terugkeer van de Medici in 1530. De beroemde sculpturen op Piazza della Signoria verwijzen naar de politieke gebeurtenissen in Florence. De David (het origineel bevindt zich in de Galleria dell'Accademia) is gemaakt door Michelangelo en voor het Palazzo Vecchio geplaatst om de macht van de Florentijnse Republiek te symboliseren in tegenstelling tot de tirannie van de Medici. Hercules en Cacus (1534) van Bandinelli symboliseert in plaats daarvan de fysieke kracht van het gezin.
De Ponte Vecchio, gebouwd vlakbij een kruispunt uit de Romeinse tijd, was tot 1218 de enige brug die de Arno in Florence overstak. Boven Ponte Vecchio zie je een deel van de prachtige Vasari Corridor. Deze gang, gebouwd in 1565 door Giorgio Vasari, loopt net boven de goudsmidwinkels die momenteel aan weerszijden van de brug staan. In opdracht van de Medici konden ze zich in alle veiligheid van Palazzo Vecchio naar Palazzo Pitti verplaatsen zonder dat ze de straten van Florence hoefden over te steken. Ten tijde van de bouw van de Corridor waren de slagerijen verzameld op de Ponte Vecchio, wier activiteit waarschijnlijk de doorgang van de Medici verstoorde, die ze in 1593 liet verhuizen en verving door de meer "decorante" goudsmidwinkels.
Piazzale Michelangelo is het meest suggestieve punt van Florence. Vanaf hier kunt u de hele stad met zijn prachtige monumenten bewonderen. It ended up being our favorite tour of the entire trip! Our driver, Artur, was outstanding. The ride was smooth, comfortable, and safe, and with a rest stop halfway both to Tuscany and on the return trip, the drive was much easier than expected. Our tour leader, Nariman, made the hours fly by. He is incredibly knowledgeable and shared fascinating history, stories, and fun facts throughout the journey that kept everyone engaged. He also proudly called himself the “best photographer,” and he absolutely lived up to that title! He happily took countless photos for everyone throughout the day and made sure we all had wonderful memories to bring home. Pisa completely exceeded my expectations. Pictures simply do not do it justice. The Piazza dei Miracoli is breathtaking, and every building is stunning. One of the most unforgettable moments was inside the Baptistry when our guide requested a demonstration of its incredible acoustics. A staff member stepped into the center and sang, and hearing her beautiful voice echo throughout the building gave me chills. It was one of the most moving experiences of our entire vacation. Florence was equally amazing. Before we even arrived, Nariman made restaurant reservations for us so we didn’t have to waste our free time waiting for a table. That thoughtful gesture allowed us to enjoy over two hours exploring this incredible city. Our Florence guide, Luis, was fantastic. His passion for Florence, its history, and Michelangelo was obvious in every story he shared. He didn’t just recite facts. He brought the city to life and made us appreciate what we were seeing so much more. I had the most amazing small group tour from Rome to Pisa and Florence. Nariman, our guide was fun, engaging, kind, inclusive, and brilliant. Emanuele, our driver, was also very welcoming, a great driver, very observant, engaging, and handled any challenges with ease. I trusted these guys with my life. I would send my kids on the road with them. These gentlemen are such an asset to this company. They made my first trip to Italy so memorable. As a bonus, members of my tour have all become friends. Our driver, Luigi, should be a NASCAR driver. He drives fast, but very carefully. He is also a great person to hang out with. Very glad to we got to meet him. Our guide, Malak, was amazing! She was very informative and kind. She even gave my wife and daughter a great place to get real authentic leather purses. She was an expert on what we were observing, and continually filled us in with local information. The best part of all, was that 90% of the time, it was just my family, Malak and Luigi. You could not have asked for a better trip. It was worth every penny!

Nariman and Roberto were INCREDIBLE!!! The tour is incredibly long at 14 hours, including 7 hours of drive time, but with these two leading the way, it didn’t feel that way.
