Dit is niet de gebruikelijke "toeristische" tour maar eerder een filosofische wandeling, tussen de bezienswaardigheden van Athene! In deze tour zullen we : a. Zie veel van de belangrijkste bezienswaardigheden van het oude Athene (we voeren ze niet allemaal in, dat zou 8 tot 9 uur duren!) b. Krijg een overzicht van de oude geschiedenis van de stad en discussieer over de grootste prestaties zoals filosofie, democratie, wetenschappen, kunsten etc. c. Onderzoek enkele van de oude filosofische theorieën onder een nieuw licht dankzij verrassende nieuwste wetenschappelijke ontdekkingen d. Bespreek de oude democratie in vergelijking met de moderne e. Geef je tips voor sightseeing, musea, activiteiten, eten, nachtleven en alles wat je wilt weten!

Deze plaats was het hart van de stad Athene. Filosofen zoals Socrates, Plato, politici zoals Solon, Themistocles, Pericles, Thoucidides, Sofoklis, Aristofanis, die bestond uit het 'Dream Team' van Athene, vooraanstaande Atheners en eenvoudige burgers die hier liepen en discussies en debatten hadden over alle zaken.

De bibliotheek van Hadrianus werd gecreëerd door Roman Keizer Hadrianus in 132 na Christus aan de noordkant van de Akropolis van Athene.
De Romeinse Agora in Athene ligt ten noorden van de Akropolis en ten oosten van de Oude Agora.
Het achtkantige gebouw genaamd de Toren van de Winden werd gemaakt door de astronoom Andronicus van Kyrristos, in de 1e eeuw voor Christus en diende zowel als windwijzer maar ook als een klok, dus het was de "Big Ben" van Athene en ook het meteorologisch station van de stad. De klok was op zonne-energie, maar in bewolkte dagen was er ook een hydraulisch mechanisme dat elk uur een geluid produceerde! Het wordt beschouwd als het eerste meteostation.
Plaka is een schilderachtige wijk van Athene met kleine huizen en smalle straatjes.
Op deze plek brengen we een eerbetoon aan een groot filosoof!
Pnyx Hill wordt beschouwd als de "bakermat van de democratie", aangezien het de eerste plaats ter wereld was waar mensen beslissingen namen over hun toekomst. De plaats biedt een geweldig uitzicht op de Akropolis en Athene.

What a wonderful day walking through Athens and learning about the historical figures in Greek history. Our guide was informative and wove a good tale about the history of philosophy and democracy from Ancient Greece. He al as I gave us a great list of ways to get even further into those subjects.
We had a great guide who made the whole tour very enjoyable. No question went unanswered and he cared well for the whole group.

Panos was very knowledgeable and funny. He made the tour very enjoyable and I could have listened to his stories all night. The walk is easy and slow pace. This is a must to understand greek history and attach the beautiful monuments you are looking at.

Panos was a fascinating tour guide with so much knowledge both of the ancient philosophy and politics that the tour was about and the philosophical and scientific discoveries of the modern age that helped prove these ancient concepts. It’s a tour that works for those who are relative novices to Ancient Athens and those with knowledge of the subject matter already. Panos’ enthusiasm comes through and he delivers his material clearly and in a way that holds your attention. The walk was at a steady pace with plenty of stops in the shade to avoid as much sun as possible, and he constantly checked in with group members to see how they were doing with the heat and terrain.

This tour is a must when visiting Athens. There was much relevant information that Panos, our terrific tour guide, was sharing with regards to how the history of Greece resembles what we are seeing in current times. There were several great stops along the way that provided beautiful pictures to take, and Panos was kind enough to offer to take the pictures. There was a break about half way in to use the restroom and get some coffee, drinks, or ice cream! Thank you Panos for one of the best tours I have taken!
