Bezoek Piazza della Signoria, een ander iconisch plein in Florence, Italië, gelegen nabij de rivier de Arno. Het is door de geschiedenis heen het politieke en sociale centrum van de stad geweest en wordt omringd door verschillende opmerkelijke gebouwen en standbeelden. Hier zijn enkele hoogtepunten van Piazza della Signoria: Loggia dei Lanzi: Deze openluchtbeeldengalerij bevindt zich naast het Palazzo Vecchio. Het beschikt over een verzameling indrukwekkende beelden, waaronder 'Perseus met het hoofd van Medusa' van Benvenuto Cellini en 'Verkrachting van de Sabijnse vrouwen' van Giambologna. Replica van het standbeeld van David: Een replica van Michelangelo's beroemde standbeeld van David staat op de Piazza della Signoria, vlakbij de ingang van het Palazzo Vecchio. Het originele beeld werd verplaatst naar de Galleria dell'Accademia om het tegen schade te beschermen. Fontein van Neptunus: Deze fontein, gelegen aan de zuidkant van het plein, heeft een groot marmeren beeld van Neptunus, omringd door verschillende zeedieren en mythologische figuren.
Dit middeleeuwse fort-paleis is het middelpunt van het plein. Het heeft eeuwenlang gediend als zetel van de Florentijnse regering en fungeert nu als stadhuis. Het paleis is versierd met indrukwekkende kunstwerken en sculpturen uit de Renaissance, waaronder werken van Michelangelo en Donatello.
Deze kerk dateert uit 1290 en is een van de meest ongewone in Florence. Het is een bijna perfect plein met gotische marmeren decoraties.

Wonderful walking trip through Florence. From Pza Signoria sights, Ponte Vecchio, Pza Republica, San Lorenzo crypt and the Medici chapel to Central Mercado and many special sights and insights along the way. Antonio was incredibly well versed in Italian history and Florentine/Tuscany history which made our walk interesting! We highly recommend this tour!
