A truly impressive tour that I can only recommend to everyone. In a local way, using various means of transportation through Dhaka. Very close by.
We had an amazing experience touring Dhaka with our guide Jerry. Everything was perfect: the city itself, the organization of the tour, and the punctuality throughout the entire day. Jerry was extremely kind, professional, and always available to answer every question with detailed explanations, making the experience even more interesting and enjoyable. We managed to see everything and fully experience the atmosphere, culture, and main attractions of Dhaka thanks to his excellent guidance. The tour was truly high-level and very well organized from start to finish. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Dhaka!
I had a wonderful time with expert guide Jerry answering all my million questions during the tour. From drinking lemon water and eating fresh fruits from the food stands to the listed sites of the tour, everything was wonderful!!
Impressive journey through a special country.
If you want to truly understand Dhaka beyond the traffic and headlines, this is the tour to book. Kamal was outstanding , warm, knowledgeable, calm in the chaos, and deeply proud of his city. He didn’t just show us sights; he immersed me in the rhythm of everyday life here. We moved through markets, backstreets, riverfronts and neighbourhoods in a way that felt authentic and respectful, never staged. It was intense, eye-opening, and incredibly human, exactly what Dhaka is. Five out of five without hesitation. Kamal made the experience.
Thank you so much for this thoughtful review. Dhaka can feel overwhelming at first, so it means a lot to hear that Kamal helped you experience the city in such a real and meaningful way. He has a special talent for helping guests connect with the everyday life, energy, and character of Dhaka beyond the usual tourist experience. We’ll also make sure he sees your comment about the photography — he’ll love that! Thank you again for exploring Dhaka with an open mind and for taking the time to share your experience. We hope Bangladesh stays with you for a long time.
Really enjoyed this tour of Dhaka with our excellent guide and driver. Mahadi showed us so much we would never have explored on our own, starting with a long walk through Kawran Bazar, and he shared a lot about Bangladesh's history and contemporary politics. This is very much unlike a walking tour of historical sites somewhere like Delhi - you do see the university, remains of Fort Lalbagh, and such, but it was more of a local tour of the city. Doing this on a Saturday was a nice way to avoid some traffic and crowd.
Indeed we experience Dhaka the local way and we survived! The traffic is horrendous but what an experience! We travelled on a van, foot and boat. We couldn't get a rickshaw because of the bad traffic jam but it was okay. Our guide Jerri is excellent! Very attentive to details and has a good heart. Highly recommend this tour to anyone going to Dhaka.
Thank you for the wonderful review! Dhaka traffic is definitely part of the adventure 😄 but we’re so happy to hear that you embraced the experience and enjoyed exploring the city like a local — by van, on foot, and by boat. Jerri will be very happy to read your kind words. He genuinely cares about our guests and always tries to make the experience smooth, personal, and memorable despite the chaos the city can sometimes bring. Thank you again for your recommendation and for experiencing the real Dhaka with us. We hope to welcome you back to Bangladesh someday!
Had the pleasure of having Jerry as my local tour guide. It was such a fun day and Jerry navigated all stressfullness of Dhaka with no hasle. Great English and able to answer all my questions. Would definitely go again.
We were disappointed by this tour after all the great reviews we read. Partly that will be high expectations are hard to meet. Don't come to Old Dhaka thinking its sites will be on a par with Old Delhi, Lahore, Rajasthan, etc. The Mughal empires left more impressive remains other places. There's not much to see here and what there is remains poorly maintained. But we knew this wouldn't rival India or Pakistan in sites. I think the bigger disappointment was the guide we were assigned was likely not nearly as good as the ones other travellers rave about. None of our booking confirmations gave us the start time of the tour, and our guide Kamal did not leave a message at our hotel nor text us to tell us when he would pick us up. It would have been much nicer to have certainty when we checked into the hotel the night before the tour and to be ready when he arrived at 7:15AM. Kamal was very nice, but his English skills were limited. His accent was harder to understand than other Bangladeshis we talked to, and I am guessing the reason he didn't impart much information was because he didn't have the vocabulary as he often seemed to not understand what we were saying. Fortunately, now with ChatGPT, you can get all the information you want on most sites instantly when you are looking at them if you have enough data. Kamal also seemed more interested in fishing for help on immigrating to the US than telling us about Bangladesh. He told me multiple times that he was getting his second masters degree and wanted to get a visa to work in the US and also how he wanted to find an American woman to marry so he could move to the US. Kamal also continued to try to upsell us to hiring him to take us around the whole country of Bangladesh after we had told him we were just doing a weekend trip to Dhaka to see the highlights of the capital and flying out the next morning. It was also disappointing to have my husband's brand new iPhone I'd given him for his birthday pickpocketed in the first place we visited (the Kawran Bazar). We were able to track the phone for a while but the thief turned the phone off after we started calling it to hear a ringer. Kamal insisted on going to the police station promising it would only take 5-10 minutes, and we wasted over an hour of our time. It was only after the phone was stolen that he started watching out for pickpockets and pointing them out to us.
Dear Linda, Thank you for taking the time to share such detailed feedback. We truly value guests who openly describe their experience. Our tour, “Explore Dhaka in a Local Way,” is designed to showcase the real, everyday life of Dhaka — its markets, transport systems, neighborhoods, and living culture. Old Dhaka is one important part of the experience, but the heart of the tour is understanding how the city functions today. Dhaka offers a very different atmosphere compared to cities known for grand preserved Mughal monuments, and we understand that this difference can influence expectations. We take your comments regarding the guide’s conduct very seriously. Our guides are expected to remain fully professional and focused on sharing Bangladesh’s culture and daily life. Personal discussions unrelated to the tour or repeated upselling after a guest has declined do not reflect our standards. Following an internal review, we have taken necessary action, as we are proud of our guide team and committed to maintaining a high level of professionalism. Regarding Kawran Bazar, it is a busy wholesale market that represents the true rhythm of Dhaka. As part of our standard procedure, guests are briefed in the vehicle before arrival to remain mindful of personal belongings, as is common practice when visiting crowded markets anywhere in the world. We are very sorry that despite these precautions, the unfortunate phone incident occurred. When this happened, our immediate priority was to assist you. We attempted to help locate the device and accompanied you to the police station because filing a report is the only official process available for recovery attempts or insurance documentation. We understand how stressful and disappointing that situation must have been. Your feedback is important to us. It helps us continue refining our standards and communication. We remain committed to delivering authentic, transparent, and professionally guided experiences that reflect the real Dhaka — with care and respect for every guest. Warm regards, Mahadi Hasan Management Team
I got to see and experience so much of Dhaka in one day. My guide Jerry was a delightful person to have around, and he knows all the places in old Dhaka, many of which I would not have found on my own. I can definitely recommend this day tour.
